Black Myth: Wukong suddenly showed up in his first gameplay last month, surprising all fans. Now the developers have revealed some details about the game in an interview with IGN China; let's find out what we can expect from this promising title.
The development team wanted to specify that Black Myth: Wukong has been in the works for two years, but their goal is to release him no earlier than another three years, we therefore imagine that it will be exclusive to the next gen. Apparently Game Science Studio is in no hurry and this shows the care with which they want to devote themselves to their project that it appears to be very ambitious and at the level of a AAA; the title had in fact received compliments from none other than Cory Barlog. The team plans to create an adventure that will keep players entertained for around fifteen hours; this can make us understand that Black Myth: Wukong will not be an open-world title, but it will be very focused on the narrative.
Speaking of narration, Game Science Studio talked about the story and its derivation from "The Journey to the West", the title, however, will be much more raw than the original work but will still tell the journey Sun Wukong, the monkey king who accompanies the monk Sanzang to recover some sacred texts. The team said they thought of outsourcing part of the project to other companies that had previously worked with Naughty Dog and Santa Monica, but ultimately chose not to. At the moment only thirty people work in the team, and for this Game Science Studio plans to hire another fifteen collaborators. Luckily for them, after the incredible trailer, more than 10.000 people have applied to work on this promising project.
As for the characters and enemies, in the full game there will be over 100 different enemy types, including bosses. Three different monkeys are then shown in the trailer, and the player will have to wait and continue the adventure to find out who the Wukong is. The area we see in the trailer is the Black Wind Mountain, which was created in about six months and will be fully playable, even with different approaches. The team has in fact specified that to overcome that area it will take from thirty to sixty minutes, based on the choices of the player who will be able to face all the enemies or turn into the golden cicada of the trailer to overcome them in a stealth way.
In addition to the cicada, the protagonist will have many other transformations available, useful for overcoming the most difficult fights. At the moment there is also a training area in the game, a bit like in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, in which you can also face different bosses to practice.
The development team then expounded by declaring their idea to publish, after this first chapter, two other games set in the same universe, thus going to create a trilogy in the Black Myth Universe, very similar to the Marvel Cinematic Universe project.
Unfortunately we have to expect a long period of silence from the team, who have stated that new information will only be released when they are able to show something not already seen in the latest trailer. Finally, we hope that the time that separates us from the release (minimum three years) is useful for the developers to make this game qualitatively high, as it promises to be.
