Days full of events this week: after the War Table of Marvel's Avengers, it was also the turn of Night City Wire, the entirely digital event dedicated to Cyberpunk 2077. CD Projekt RED has in fact thought, in the absence of the major fairs dedicated to the sector videogame, to a series of remotely recorded presentations in order to accompany fans towards the launch of his next title, whose postponement from September to November was announced just a few days ago. The developers then planned a route along which various features of the game will be revealed and some new side projects will be shown, which has already been done during the first episode.
CyberAnime 2077
Surprisingly, CDPR has announced the arrival of an anime set in the universe of Cyberpunk 2077 whose plot will be totally unrelated to that of the title, albeit always set in Night City. The anime will be produced by Studio Trigger, already well known for Kill La Kill, Gurren Lagann and for his forays into the gaming world in Shantae and Indivisible. The anime will be titled Cyberpunk Edgerunners and will be created in collaboration with Netflix and the supervision of CD Projekt RED, of course. The project should see the light during the 2022 but during the first episode of Night City Wire no further details were given on the matter.
Batpunk
Much of the event was instead dedicated to Braindance. As the name suggests, it revolves around the cybernetic systems installed on V and on the other characters, through which it will be possible to record the events within Night City. In this way, V will be able to connect to the city network through machinery and relive the experiences of others, including the sensations that the hacked individual feels at that moment. In the lore of the title, the Braindance is now in common use: it is exploited both for more specific purposes such as therapeutic, and for the use of films, video games This skill will be very useful for reconstructing crime scenes (in full Detective mode of the Batman Arkham series) but not only: Pawel Sasko, the Lead Quest Designer, has repeated and specified several times that, being able to analyze and review everything that happens, theBraindance mode will be a different way of telling stories, the background of Night City and its inhabitants. It will then be up to the players to go to the bottom to steal all the useful elements to reconstruct the stories that CDPR will hide in the alleys of the city, making wise use of all the tools available: we will be able to forward the events, bring them back, zoom in, analyze objects and living beings, listening to dialogues outside the area of interest and much more. In short, within the Braindance we will be overwhelmed with potential to exploit.
Hey, Jackie!
A crucial personality, especially during our first steps in Night City, will be Jackie. Nello spectacular trailer (extrapolated from the game's intro alone) which was given space in the first part of Night City Wire, Jackie is practically omnipresent, this to underline his importance and his bond with V. Thanks to him we will get the first assignments and we will enter the business that will allow us to install the first lifts to start our climb to the upper floors of the city, although obviously not everything will go as planned. In the trailer, the Badlands were also presented again, that is the desertified areas surrounding the seven districts of Night City in which we can venture at our peril as they will be populated by Nomads, known for not being so hospitable. Nomads are divided into families and these are in constant struggle with each other. The factions, made up of the various bands of the city, will also have great importance if compared to the vicissitudes of V: depending on how we behave towards them, allying with them, facing them or ignoring them, our path will deviate in different paths. Regardless of the turn that events take, we will come into contact with different personalities that Cyberpunk 2020 fans already know very well: some examples are Johnny Silverhand or Adam Smasher, the cyborg hired by the Arasaka Corporation.
Everything shown in this first episode of the Night City Wire gave us very positive impressions and vibrations, making us immerse ourselves in the atmosphere of the next CD Projekt RED title. The only things that cause us some perplexity concern the apparently a bit too arcade style of both the guide and the gunplay, especially the second one seems perhaps a bit too “framed”, but they are simple impressions deduced from the trailer. Surely these aspects will be explored later and properly evaluated in the review, as they could still marry well with everything else.
Above the entire first episode of Night City Wire, Needless to say, we look forward to the next one!
