Temtem is a game developed by the software house Crema Games and distributed all over the world. The title right from the start shows itself to the public as a product strongly inspired by the series Nintendo's Pokémon; in fact, the title of Crema Games allows the player to collect monsters and make them fight, all supported by a plot also recalling the titles Game Freak.
After several tests we are ready to review and have our say on this particular production.
Temtem (currently available in early access exclusively for PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch) is a project that exudes love for the Pokémon series but if the player is required to own a Nintendo console for the latter, the title of Crema Games offers a similar gaming experience but aimed at everyone, regardless of the console owned. Currently under review, the title is indicatively in a state of completion equal to 75/80%, allowing the player to live an optimal experience thanks to the numerous contents available, but it lacks in small finishes that require some time for the team of development.
Temtem it is a title that allows the player to experience a solitary adventure and so far all the lovers of the Pokémon series do not find anything different, but the production of Crema Games gives the best with the multiplayer component; in fact the player can experience the entire adventure in an online cooperative, moreover you can interact with other real people who are also present on the island as a real MMO, in this way you can exchange your monsters or why not, fight up to the last resort.
The adventure begins in Zadar, a small and colorful village close to the sea. The player's first impact with the game setting is given by a bright and saturated color. From the first bars of the game, however, one gets the impression that this choice of the developer was not very apt; only after several hours on Temtem did we realize that the saturated color choice is perfect for this production. The chromatic coloring blends perfectly with the cartoonish graphic style, transmitting that freshness and attention to detail on the screen. The graphic style chosen by the team is apparently simple but deep down it is a complex graphic style to manage and for this reason the title has small imperfections here and there such as dialogue lines that sometimes disappear or small furnishings that overlap in certain cases: imperfections easily solvable from here at the exit from early access
A gameplay already seen ..
If the plot strongly recalls the titles of Game Freak, the gameplay is not far behind. Crema Games takes weight as seen in the Pokémon series and carries it on an equal footing in Temtem. The heart of the gameplay is divided into: training, evolution of monsters, collecting small creatures, capturing and becoming the strongest trainer in the Archipelago. The gameplay of the Crema Games production is this but compared to the Pokémon series it presents some powerful monsters created in the laboratory even if this aspect recalls another well-known saga, that of the Digimon.
The game adventure is like that of any Pokémon title with the only difference that on the player's street, there are no gyms, but Dojos which, however, have the same function. Temtem begins to take its own identity in the secondary aspects. Compared to the Game Freak series, the Crema Games production offers numerous secondary activities that recall the RPG genre: these activities lead the player to break away from the main quest and vary - albeit slightly - the game formula. The quests can ask the player to recover a certain object or to capture a particular monster, nothing too complex but it is interesting to see the inclusion of secondary quests.
Very interesting is the creation of the Temtems, each well diversified and made in a maniacal way: each monster is made in an accurate and original way, almost impossible to find similar. Small praise to the sound sampling, simple, catchy and never repetitive.
What about the news?
The similarities with the most famous series are many, but at the same time the title of Crema Games is not a simple copy and paste. The software house is committed to changing the battle system: while still dealing with turn-based challenges, the title has innovative elements such as status conditions that last for three turns; visual elements that indicate how many actual shifts are missing at the end of the poisoning condition for example. Another interesting aspect is the mana bar that allows the Temtem to make attacks: if the player makes a shot that requires more mana than available, the monster deals damage to itself and must wait for a turn.
Other innovative aspects present in the production of Crema Games must be sought in a game world completely connected with other players. As anticipated at the beginning of the article, the game world of Temtem is connected to the game server, in this way each connected trainer is displayed on the game screen as it happens in any MMORPG. This connection gives life to the game formula and manages to entertain the player with extra challenges and why not, allows him to create his own group of friends.
As in any self-respecting MMORPG, there is no lack of customization, in fact the customization within Temtem is present in every corner, you can change hair, color, style of clothing. Personalization does not stop only at your avatar, but you can customize your home and beyond.
Evaluating Temtem is by no means easy. On the one hand we find a product strongly inspired and copied by the Nintendo series and on the other it is appreciable to see the effort of a software house in inserting new elements that were missing and were loudly requested by Pokémon fans. The title at present "early access" is in shape, flaws in some aspects as small imperfections, but easily solved with patches and the support from the development team is not lacking. Overall the title is a good product, after 30 hours spent on this title there have never been any defects or bugs that could compromise the gaming experience. The title has been tested on PlayStation 5 and has always defended itself optimally without ever disfiguring. This title is suitable for anyone who loves the Pokemon series and is looking for an MMO experience.
