Once you reach the end of the Aldia fortress, one of the most particular and lore-rich maps of Dark Souls II, the time has come to face the Guardian Dragon. The fearsome creature presides over what is the entrance to the next map, the Dragon's Nest. It does not represent a particularly difficult opponent, however we give you some advice to deal with it anyway. So, let the battle begin!
Strategy and useful tips:
The Guardian Dragon certainly does not represent one of the most complex bosses in Dark Souls II, as it is quite predictable and does not have particularly complex attacks to stem. First of all, we invite you, if you have not already done so, to equip your character with good resistance to fire. Also remember that the boss is very resistant to fire and very little to electricity. As soon as you enter the arena, go under the creature's feet and hit its legs, making a maximum of two consecutive hits, in order to avoid being hit by the stomp. Continue with this strategy until the boss takes off: at this point run near the walls of the cage and stay there until the dragon returns to the ground.
If it spits fire in flight, do not worry: it will hardly hit you if you are close to the perimeter. If it spits meteors, dodge or parry them if you have a shield with high fire resistance (such as the Gyrm Large Shield). Once the enemy is on the ground repeat the procedure used at the beginning. Whether you are melee or ranged characters, nothing changes, the strategy to use is the same, with the only exception being the possibility of hitting him with spells when he is in flight.
Attacks:
- Fiery breath: the dragon breathes fire in front of him when he is on the ground, and under him when he is in flight; be careful, because in the second case it will hit a large part of the battle ground, so avoid the attack by staying as close as possible to the walls of the cage
- Meteors: while in flight or hanging from the cage above you, the boss will spit fiery meteors at you
- Ram: if you are under his feet, the dragon will try to trample you
- Bite: if you stand in front of him or to the side, the boss will try to bite you
- Codata: if you stay behind it, however, the dragon will try to hit you with its tail

The Aldia fortress is, as we have already mentioned several times, one of the most fascinating and mysterious maps, as well as spooky, in the whole universe of Dark Souls and specifically of Dark Souls II. Who knows the work of FromSoftwaresa well that, in every chapter of the series, there is always a map of this kind, particular and, let us pass the term, frightening. In the Fortress, the mysterious brother of the King VendrickPrecisely Aldia, has conducted all sorts of experiments ending, as we have already mentioned above, probably to replace the gigantic Dragon located at the bottom of the Dragon's Nest.
This map is defended by another dragon, precisely the Guardian Dragon, whose boss-fight takes place entirely in a giant cage. Everything, including some aesthetic aspects of the creature, suggests that Aldia has subdued the gigantic red dragon by force, also conducting experiments on her body or, simply, using it as a "commodity" of study to appease her hunger for knowledge.
Although overall anonymous, if you look at this boss from a "human" point of view it can be decidedly much more memorable than it was in strictly playful terms.
