Land on a hostile desert planet due to a spacecraft accident, survive and evolve in order to build a new rocket to escape. All this is Dig or Die, the new title from Gabby Games. At first glance, the game may seem simple and not very surprising, but in reality to be completed at best, especially in the most difficult modes, it requires great strategic and organizational skills.
Dig or Die is a 2D game with graphics that at first glance may seem poor, but in reality the details are not left to chance: from the personalization of the character to the atmospheric agents, every detail is well detailed and recognizable.
Each object has its own image that changes each time it is enhanced. In addition, when an object is held, we can see that the details are not neglected, making the various actions that our character will perform as realistic as possible.
During the adventure we will have to explore and collect the various materials that we will need to craft weapons, useful objects or building blocks. The game may seem repetitive: you explore and collect materials during the day, return to the base at night to defend yourself, and so on. However, after the first few days, having to move further and further away from the base due to explorations, we will face many opponents and it will be increasingly difficult to survive, especially during the night if we find ourselves far from the base.
The artificial intelligence of the spacecraft will help us during the course of the days, providing us with many tips on how to upgrade our base in order to better survive enemy attacks.
In itself, the game can be considered complete when we manage to build the missile that will save us; it will still be possible to indulge yourself by modifying your base and trying to resist attacks in different ways and with different weapons.
The planet, however, will always be hostile to us and atmospheric agents will not give us respite. The frequent torrential rains will endanger the work done in the base by flooding it, while the violent eruptions of the volcano present in the area will make us face countless challenges.
Throughout the gameplay we will be accompanied by background music that is best suited to the situations in which we will come across. There are two main types of music: one for the day and one for the night. The daytime melody is relaxing and perfectly suited to the jobs that need to be done to survive, from collecting materials to exploring the planet. During the night, however, we will listen to music that will keep us in the suspense that is always present in this phase of the game.
Furthermore, each opponent will have a specific sound that characterizes him thus helping the player to immediately understand the enemy he will have to face and above all from which side of the screen he will arrive.
Dig or Die perfectly manages to catapult the player into a situation in which you have to survive at all costs by making auto rescues your best friends in situations that are sometimes really complicated. In addition, thanks to the multiplayer mode, the fun increases and even the most difficult mode is faced in the best way.
