Saints Row: The Third Remastered - Review

Review for Saints Row: The Third Remastered. Game for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the video game was released on 22/05/2020

It's been about nine years since the release of the beloved but also hated Saints Row: The Third. All these years, however, have not discouraged Deep Silver who after all this time has still decided to bring back a title of the genre with a remastering made ad hoc. With the purchase of the new version of the game you will have practically each DLC released as well as a general improvement of the graphics sector.

Saints Row: The Third Remastered - Review

What made Saints Row: The Third so particular at the time was mainly the new direction it was taken, thus deviating considerably from its cousin Grand Theft Auto, decidedly superior in terms of the genre to which it belongs. With the new chapter it was therefore decided to take a more satirical and messy path, which puts the player in a position to go against any law of physics and in general any other existing law.

Our return to Steelport in Saints Row: The Third Remastered is immediately accompanied by a decidedly cinematic mission, which sees us intent on escaping from the clutches of a Belgian criminal, whose goal was to take a large chunk of our earnings, coming strictly from illegal activities. This immediately makes us understand what will be the trend of the game, which in addition to the ability to complete a large number of main missions decidedly out of the ordinary, it also allows us to explore and carry out secondary activities such as car theft or the pimp, classic of the series.

Saints Row: The Third Remastered - Review

As it was for the Nintendo Switch version, also in this case Saints Row: The Third Remastered will be enriched by a frightening amount of DLC, which add new missions, customizations, cars and weapons, all in order to destroy any form of life in the city, with the exception of the pandas, they are absolutely not to be killed! Among the additional contents of the story we point out Genkibowl VII, Gangstas in Space and The Trouble with Clones, which certainly expand an already very rich and interesting offer.

As for the gameplay there are no differences from the original version, you will have weapons of all kinds, human or alien, extravagant vehicles and super fast pink cars. There are many things to do but they all share the goal of destroying and killing, often in a very satirical way, thanks also to many jokes that in modern society could turn up your nose, but that nine years ago still made the difference between what was called "the GTA-like game" and what is now called "Sains Row", given its complete registry change that finally made it different from anything else in business.

The big difference that can be seen from the first minutes of the game is obviously the heavy graphic restyling that Sperasoft has made to every single pixel of Saints Row: The Third Remastered. They have been improved all polygons present in the game world, starting from the characters up to buildings, enemies and vehicles, making everything much better and more enjoyable. Big improvements also on the front textures that are now in step with the current generation thanks to HD and best fit to polygons.

Big improvements also to the lighting and color management system, now also rendered in HDR thanks to the new changes made by the team.

Important improvements for Saints Row: The Third Remastered also on effects of explosions and the overall stability of the game engine, which rarely showed signs of abating. We found on PlayStation 4 Pro a constant frame rate even in the most excited moments, a sign that the Sperasoft team really gave their all to bring the definitive experience of the game. The only ones that actually remain are those relating to management of physics and artificial intelligence, which unfortunately remain those of nine years ago and they will often make you understand the technological limits that existed at the time, especially for the creation of an open world title of this caliber.

In general, the restyling was successful, were it not for some small graphic bugs, probably the son of the graphical update, which in some situations made us spawn without some fully loaded game textures for about 30-40 seconds. This is a small thing that will have happened to us four times and that we hope will be resolved in the next updates, so as to allow everyone to enjoy the best gaming experience.

Saints Row: The Third Remastered - Review

Saints Row: The Third Remastered is a commercial product that tries to bring new and veteran players closer to this particular chapter of the series that has served as a watershed from the old series to the new one, decidedly more satirical and messy. This new version brings with it practically all the DLCs released over the years, both those relating to the story and those relating to new content such as weapons, vehicles or various customizations. The technical aspect is very important, the real novelty of this chapter that brings with it new polygons and textures in high definition, as well as HDR and new particle and explosion effects. The general stability of the engine is also good, while the physics engine and the artificial intelligence engine remain decidedly old, which once again will make us deal with enemies who seem not to even know what they are doing. However, we recommend the purchase to all veterans and new players who want to experience the ultimate Saints Row experience.
