With an announcement that looks very much like a request for forgiveness, Koei Tecmo has revealed Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires, a follow-up to the original (and not much loved) Dynasty Warriors 9.. The biggest immediately confirmed difference between Empires and the original 9 is that there will be no open world. Great news for fans of the series, as that aspect wasn't working inside the musou released in 2018.
With a launch window scheduled for early 2021, Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires will bring the flagship musou series to next-gen, with Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X / S, but also current gen with Playstation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, as well as a PC publication via Steam. It is hoped that Empires will remedy the huge flaws in Dynasty Warriors 9, which have left a tremendous scar on fans. The absence of Open World is certainly a first step in the right direction, however it is not the only problem that dwarfs the 2018 title, between uninspired move-sets and flat level design, there will be a lot to fix in Empires.
