Upload a pre-written file

Uploading a file that contains what is said in the video is one way to add captions to a video. For this to work, you need to have the correct file type. For example, a SubRip, SubViewer or LRC will work, if properly formatted.

Log into your YouTube Studio account.
Select Subtitles, found in the left sidebar.
Click on the video you want to edit.
