After having depopulated with over a million copies sold on Playstation 4 and Steam, the excellent roguelike - bullet hell di Dodge Roll Games, Enter the Gungeon has totaled over 75000 downloads in just two weeks on the newborn Nintendo Switch.

The indie / roguelike genre undoubtedly has a truly remarkable engaging charm: the player finds himself devouring one game after another hypnotized by the speed of the game sessions and by the excited rhythm of the same. Furthermore, the component of permanent death - with the consequent loss of everything that has accumulated during the game - raises the level of attention and helps to create that enchantment that only this genre can give: the hypnosis of "one more time and I'll stop ”Infects and affects everyone.

I development team guys they knew this well when they designed Enter the Gungeon e have ensured that the fulcrum of the action merged the roguelike genre with the one with similar characteristics, the bullet hell. The result thus obtained is an exciting and addictive title in Isaac Rebirth style, covered by a rain (literally) of guns and bullets: a guaranteed success.

The plot is a mere pretext for throwing the player into procedurally generated dungeons and for this always different and, however fascinating, remains a marginal outline to the gaming experience:

“Legends lost in the memory of galaxies tell of a distant planet where a grim fortress stood: a sinister force tore through the sky and struck it devastating it. Hidden among its ruins lies an immensely powerful artifact: a weapon that can kill the past. Now there are many who would do anything to get a second chance.
But getting your hands on the weapon and changing the past won't be that easy! "

At the player's disposal there will be several usable characters, each with different active and passive characteristics: this interesting feature actually takes a back seat since, as the dungeon progresses, weapons and various items will be made available that will upset any starting parameter you have chosen. This does not mean that the choice of the starting character is to be done lightly since the level of difficulty, deliberately fluctuating, will put you to the test right away.

With the passage of time, things certainly do not improve: the great variety of weapons and the consequent rain of bullets they give birth will make each scheme a delirium of crazy pixels. It is not uncommon to find yourself with a decidedly fun but ineffective weapon, or with a devastated producer of hot lead that will make you almost immortal. In both cases, never let your guard down, especially with bosses: underestimating them would be a serious mistake.

The pixelated graphics have always been well suited to indie projects and especially roguelike ones. Also in Enter the Gungeon this pairing between pixels and murderous frenzy turns out to be a winner. Such a frenetic gameplay must necessarily be accompanied by an audio to the height and a soundtrack that supports it: the guys at Dodge Roll Games know it well and have not sinned even in this respect.

Enter the Gungeon is preparing to be a great success on the Nintendo Switch mainly thanks to its well-suited to a (semi) portable console, but unfortunately this port is also not without flaws. Loading times are ridiculously long and in a title that hides death around every corner this can be a big downside. The controls should also be revised and adapted to a console as versatile as the Switch. Of course, all this does not ruin - if not in a minimal part - the final result, which still remains well beyond sufficiency.

Enter the Gungeon is a great title for short and fun sessions. It turns out to be long-lived over time, thanks to a roguelike component coupled with unbridled bullet hell, all seasoned with procedurally generated and therefore always different dungeons. The long loading times and the not exactly excellent commands do not preclude the title from a deserved place of honor among the new ports for Nintendo Switch. Recommended purchase for everyone, also considering the widely accessible price.
