Epic Games, Fortnite software house, is sending some material to some influencers. All this to support the "Free Fortnite" campaign. As posted on Twitter by a famous influencer, the bags containing the material arrive in a white cardboard box, very similar to what Apple uses for its devices. There is also a rainbow colored “Free Fortnite” jacket. As if that were not enough, in the package there is also a Galaxy Tab S7, a direct competitor of the iPad.
A note inside the package reads that "Fortnite has been declared the Samsung Galaxy Store Game of The Year for 2020". The note shows that a collaboration with Samsung has been established to create the package received. All of this is something of a small revenge as Epic has been kicked out of both the App Store and Google Play for trying to get around the 30% cut on transactions. Epic, after this departure, created a commercial that recalls an Apple commercial from 1984.
The Cupertino company responded to these allegations by saying that Epic CEO Tim Sweeney wanted to retract the agreements made previously on the App Store. The executive, in his defense, stated that he was involved because he wanted to obtain better conditions for all developers. In the counter-suit, Apple said Epic's decision to circumvent payments was a subterfuge. Epic, after all this, had its developer account closed on the App Store, but if a judge hadn't intervened, the whole affair would have had repercussions on all those who use the Unreal Engine.
Sweeney has long argued that Apple takes too much of the revenue from sales in its store. For this reason, two years ago Epic launched the Epic Games Store, to try to change the market. We have gone from the old 70/30% distribution to the current 88/12%.
