Starting yesterday on Xbox Series X | S some of the Bethesda titles will be able to count on the FPS Boost: here is explained what it is and how to activate it.
Microsoft has made the FPS Boost available for five Bethesda Softworks titles since yesterday for those who own them or for those who decide to download them through Xbox Game Pass. Thanks to this feature, these games will be able to enjoy an almost doubled frame rate when played in backward compatibility on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.
What are the compatible titles?
- Dishonored: Definitive Edition
- The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition
- Fallout 4
- Fallout 76
- Prey
What is FPS Boost?
FPS Boost is described by Microsoft as a technology “that uses a variety of new methodologies to nearly double the original frame rate on select games. The higher frame rate makes the games more visually beautiful, something that makes the gameplay more immersive ”. In some cases, however, as with Fallout 76 and Fallout 4, this happens at the expense of the resolution which is slightly lowered.
How to activate the FPS Boost?
To double the frame rate of these games just log in to your Xbox Series X / S and go to "Manage Game" where you will find, in supported games, the "Compatibility Options" item. Within this item you can activate the FPS Boost. Once this option is activated, just click on the Xbox button on the gamepad to see at the top right if it is actually working. Now you just have to start your game and enjoy the doubled frame rate.
