Since its release in 2018, God of War has continued to be among the most celebrated titles to have released this generation for PlayStation 4 players. With a follow-up to the game confirmed for release next year on PlayStation 5, it is likely. that many gamers will want to revisit or revisit the series for the first time on PS5, with Santa Monica Studio confirming some of the next-gens available for the title.
Developer Santa Monica Studio shared more details on PS5 backward compatibility support with some of its titles, including 2018's God of War. Specifically, the studio explained that on PS5, God of War will offer the ability to play at 60 fps and will allow players to transfer their save files from the PS4 version to pick up where they left off. God of War III Remastered will also include save transfers from the PS4 version, but no specific details have been given on visual enhancements for PS5.
As one of the most acclaimed titles released of this generation on PS4, it's no surprise that Santa Monica Studio and Sony have likely wanted to add some additional features for the PS4-exclusive game, which will be available to play thanks to backward compatibility. Notably, Sony announced last month that the 2018 title will be included as part of the PlayStation Plus Collection, a free collection of 18 games available to PS5 owners with an active PS Plus subscription at launch. This will likely give new PS5 owners the opportunity to play the game for the first time, for those who may have missed out on its original PS4 version.
God of War is now available on PS4 and will also be backward compatible on PS5.
