Exploration
This is the most fun way to search for deserts, because it involves exploration. To find a desert, or any other biome, grab a horse and run until you find it. Or hop on a boat and sail until you see a desert.
However, to have a better chance of finding a desert, it is useful to know where it spawns. Deserts usually appear near other hot biomes, such as savannas, plateaus and warm oceans. Reading some maps is also useful while exploring.
Using tricks
There is a command that allows you to locate any biome in the game. However, this command is only available in version 1.16 of the Java edition of the game. The command is «/ locatebiome ". To use this command to locate a desert, replace "biome id" with the word "desert".
If you did it correctly, the game will show you some coordinates. Enough travel to those coordinates to reach the desert. You can see your current coordinates by pressing the «F3» key.
You can also use the "/ tp XY Z" command by replacing "X" "Y" and "Z" with the three numbers the game showed you when you used the previous command.
