After the moderate success achieved on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, Neon Chrome the Cyberpunk Twin-Stick Shooter by 10tons also lands on Nintendo Switch with good results.
The complete unpredictability of Neon Chrome makes it a game with a decent longevity, if only for the high number of attempts required to climb the tower and pass randomly generated levels with each run. The adrenaline flows in this fast-paced shooter and I make the title enjoyable for both short and long game sessions.
At the beginning of each game we will be faced with 3 randomly generated assets and with different characteristics from each other that can help or disadvantage us within the levels we are going to face.
Once we have chosen the profile that is closest to our style of play we can begin our climb to the Neon Chrome tower through randomly generated levels and therefore always different at each run. The aim of the game is to move through rooms and doors that can only be opened with certain keys to reach the elevator and go up to the next floor until you defeat the overseer (the supervisor) who controls all the people in the skyscraper and connected to each other cybernetically . Before starting each run we will have the opportunity to purchase improvements for the characteristics that are common to each character (health, energy, damage, luck) by spending coins collected here and there within the levels and which will have permanent effects within the game.
Once certain levels have been reached and / or completed we will have the opportunity to start from there and no longer from level 1, so as not to make the subsequent runs too harrowing and we will also have access to another "market" full of weapons and additional upgrades. This breaks the monotony that would otherwise be created and that could tire even the most accustomed player to this genre.
The is also interesting co-op mode, unfortunately only available locally, up to 4 players, but which is playable only if each player obviously has 2 analog sticks, which forces the purchase of an additional joystick or a pair of Joy-Con plus for each person who intends to join the game.
However, the graphic sector of Neon Chrome disappoints expectations, as the setting and layout of the various levels are, in the long run, very repetitive despite the environment having a high level of interaction: almost all elements can be blown up. , reason for which environmental shelters are extremely dynamic and variable. It is a pity that the repetitiveness of the gaming arenas perhaps penalizes too much what turns out to be a well-studied battlefield at first glance.
However, a lance must be broken in favor of the audio sector of the entire game: the soundtracks appear pleasant to the player's ear and suitable for the almost continuous frenetic pace of the game.
The controls are the classic ones of a twin-stick, the movement is entrusted to the left stick, while the right one remains the responsibility of the 360 ° aim and that of the melee attack. The primary weapon fires via the ZR button while the secondary weapon is used with ZL. If even the gameplay is not very comfortable with the 2 Joy-con provided by the Japanese company together with the console, simply insert them in the appropriate support or use the Joystick pro for nintendo switch to significantly improve the gaming experience.
Neon Chrome, in essence, turns out to be a good twin-stick shooter even on Nintendo Switch, capable of keeping the player's attention level always high, in an attempt to counter the ever-increasing number of enemies present in each level. A title suitable for those who love the frenzy and the waste of bullets without hesitation.
