Pokémon Sword and Shield - Hoenn's starters

Pokémon Sword and Shield - Hoenn's starters

If in a previous guide we revealed how to get the starter Pokémon of Alola thanks to The Lonely Island of Armor, now it's the turn of the Hoenn starter - Treecko, Torchic and Mudkip in Pokémon Sword and Shield.

Among the most recognizable creatures of the brand and those who more than others break the bond with Johto and Kanto with the third generation, they too have joined the eighth roster with the Expansion Pass. Finding them, just like Rowlet, Litten, and Popplio isn't exactly as easy as drinking a glass of water.

    How to get Hoenn starters

Technically Treecko, Torchic and Mudkip were added in The Snow Lands of the Crown but are not found in the frozen lands, therefore in the classic tall grass. Only their evolved forms can be captured by participating in Dynamax Adventures, a new multiplayer mechanic in which you choose rental Pokémon and compete against each other in quick succession, both online and offline.

Grovyle, Combusken and Marshtomp then have a chance to appear as Pokémon Dynamax in Dynamax Adventures. Once kissed by luck, just defeat the Pokémon and select it as a creature to take with you at the end of the adventure. This will mean leaving behind the last Pokémon challenged in favor of the starters of Hoenn, who is often a legendary (fear not, it will be possible to recapture it by talking to the NPC). Once you have captured the three starters, just take them to the Pokémon Day Care located on Route 5 after Turffield or in the Wilderness before Steamington and Knuckleburgh, leave it with Ditto and wait for an egg. If for some reason you still don't have Ditto we have a guide on this.

    • Treecko evolves into Grovyle at level 16 and Sceptile at level 36.
    • Torchic evolves into Combusken at level 16 and Blaziken at level 36.
    • Mudkip evolves into Marshtomp at level 16 and Swampert at level 36.

Additionally, Sceptile, Blaziken, and Swampert make an appearance as a rental Pokémon, but their Mega Evolutions are not available in Generation XNUMX titles.

I don't want to buy the DLC, can I get the same Treecko, Torchic and Mudkip?

Yes. Those who do not intend to purchase the Pokémon Sword and Shield Expansion Pass need not give up the Hoenn starters: they can always receive it with an exchange from someone who has the DLC and has captured the Pokémon or try their luck with prodigious exchanges.
