As you well know, after years of suffering and struggles against the obscurantism that plagued our country, Made in Italy is making its way also on the most important squares worldwide. Every year we can admire how new talents make their way in this vast gaming world: some of the greatest masterpieces ever created they are our own, starting with Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, Daymare: 1998, Detective Gallo, Close to the Sun, and many more. We can strongly affirm that, finally, video game development is also growing vigorously in our beautiful country.

One of the milestones that we would like to add to the aforementioned list is certainly that of the guys from Stormind Games, or one of the small studios on Sicilian soil: the latter gave us one of the best horror adventures in the videogame panorama, Remothered: Tormented Fathers. After the moderate success of the work, the title directed by Chris Darril is preparing to land on the small Nintendo house with a totally new port. Will it be able to hit even Nintendo Switch users? Let's find out together in this review!

For those who don't know, the title is already available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC; while news on the highly anticipated sequel to the game will soon be released: Remothered: Broken Porcelain.

A scary adventure ...

For those like us who have already been able to enjoy the title on home platforms, will know what the narrative of the game is made of which, even today, remains among the best ever: the guys at Stormind Games have always aimed more at the narrative quality than at the technical one, finally churning out one of the most noteworthy horror stories. Remothered's story is set in a large mansion where the owner, Doctor Felton, he is forced to live in the shadows due to a serious illness, almost incurable.

Poor Felton's daughter, Celeste, disappears without a trace and the protagonist Rosemary will begin to investigate the matter and will have to move in an attempt to clarify the mysteries that surround the past of Mr. Felton and his disturbing family.

During his investigation our protagonist will meet Gloria, or the nurse who takes care of Mr. Felton which, following some persistent interrogations, will infuriate the landlord who will throw Rosemary out of her "humble" abode. Our goal will be to return to the house to discover the dark and macabre secrets that are hidden in those four walls.

Of course, expect to find scary enemies and dark and gloomy settings. Will our protagonist be able to solve all the puzzles and discover the mysteries of the Felton house? Find out by purchasing the full game!

Never change a winning team!

Remothered: Tormented Fathers on Switch does not undergo great variations regarding the gameplay, indeed it remains faithful to what is seen on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One: the view appeared to us quite good even when we hide or when we escape from the "Stalkers". The commands are almost unchanged compared to what is seen on home consoles, we also have a little tutorial to test the controls and the Joy-Con grip which, to be honest, do not affect or improve the gaming experience in the least.

We believe that the functions of the Joy-Con and of the small Switch in general have not been exploited properly: it will not be possible to use the touch to browse the documents or objects found, while the controllers do not exploit any type of feature (pity).

Apparently, this version of Remothered: Tormented Fathers does not support any Nintendo Switch feature in particular, and it seems to be a porting far too simple and without a minimum of commitment. Luckily, there is still an audio in English (well done) accompanied by subtitles in Spanish: in TV mode the subtitles are too small and it is really difficult to read them carefully; luckily the situation improves in portable mode.

The lack of support for HD Rumble we will notice right away: the vibration system is exempt from this version, but we are sure it would have been a plus for the small studio and for their multimedia work.

Graphics and Sound

Unfortunately, graphically speaking, the adventures of Remothered: Tormented Fathers on Nintendo Switch are not up to par with what is seen on PC and Console: the title on Switch is graphically unwatchable, we noticed a second generation graphics with grainy textures, blurred objects and undefined environments.

The lighting system is also to be reviewed and we do not exclude some pop-up problems present in the game: we happened to notice some objects disappear into thin air or charge only once approaching the object in question, while some lighting effects us they appeared unintuitive. The game movies instead, they appeared well detailed and very redefined: It may seem strange to you, but the gameplay movies run exceptionally on Nintendo Switch, both in portable and TV mode.

Even if the performances of Nintendo Switch are not at the levels of PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, it is not enough to justify the problems present in this version of Remothered: Tormented Fathers: let's take for example the port of Detective Gallo or Spyro, there both appeared perfect and well defined on the Nintendo hybrid despite the console performance.

The sound sector is instead well characterized and defined, bringing to the player that sense of anxiety and tension throughout the duration of the adventure: the noises of the wood and the moans of the old Felton, will keep us constantly on guard and constantly alert.

Remothered: Tormented Fathers is a recommended title for all those who love third-person horror adventures, and we highly recommend trying it for those who have not yet played it on Sony and Microsoft home consoles. On this platform you will not enjoy all the potential that this multimedia work can offer, but if you accept some compromise - mainly graphic - it will be a pleasure to play it on Nintendo Switch too. The title can be purchased on the Nintendo eShop for the modest sum of € 29,99, while the retail version should arrive over the next few months.
