An ancient legend has it that a demon, in the form of a large white snake, spread disease and death in a village. The population, to appease the demon's wrath, decided to offer him as a tribute not human sacrifices, but SUSHI. The demon was so pleased with the offer that he decided to give up the village. Only this story can make us understand the delicate and delicious power of sushi, and so the fusion between Nintendo and Indieszero has decided to exploit this potential and embroider us on a plot, the final result is a nice Puzzle Action named Sushi Striker, available for 3Ds and Nintendo Switch.

Can Sushi ever be the cause of a war outbreak? Of course yes! In a post-apolactic world a conflict breaks out between two factions: the empire, which wants to ban the consumption of Shushi and the FLS (sushi liberation force) which wants to share Sushi with the whole population. The protagonist of the game (both in male and female versions), Musashi, is a child who manages to discover the hidden and delicious flavor of Sushi. Seeing that his people and his friends are suffering from hunger due to the empire blocking the spread of sushi, Musashi decides to fight against this injustice and to become a real Sushi warrior. During the Musashi adventure, he will discover that he not only has to face the empire, but also several unresolved situations from his past, accompanied by several strange creatures called spirits of Sushi.

Being a puzzle game, the gameplay is a predominant part of the title. The dynamics of the game take place in a real situation of "who eats the most wins": the player finds himself in front of three personal tapes and one shared with the opponent, on which various Sushi plates such as Shake, l 'Ebi, Bintoro and many other delicacies; in short, those who frequent Japanese restaurants can easily identify with the battle. The more you can match the color of the saucers by moving the cursor in all directions, the more sushi is eaten, and the more empty saucers are stacked and thrown at the opponent. The time to match the saucers is about 7 seconds, where you have to take advantage of reflexes and speed to eat more Sushi.

To try to tear a mask of woodiness and monotony from the fight, the spirits of Sushi come into play, who can join the team by making a pact with them, simply by eating their Sushi. Each of these spirits has a certain ability that can be exploited in combat, and three spirits can be used for each battle in order to create battle strategies: defensive, attack, disturb the opponent and so on. It is also possible, by accumulating experience points during the fights and gradually increasing the level, to make the spirits evolve to return them to their original form. By winning the fights it is possible to obtain different objects to increase the level of the spirits or their skills in combat.

Arrived at a certain point in the story we will enter the Sacred Wood, where in addition to improving the skills of the character and the spirits with different puzzles, it is possible to enter the multiplayer mode, to clash with different players online. Speaking of Sushi it is almost obvious that you enter a world full of Japanese Anime themed colors, with animated scenes that capture so much attention that they make you forget for a moment that you are playing a video game. A positive note must be spent on the subtiles in Spanish and the successful dubbing in English, surrounded by cheerful and lively music.

In the end, the game tries to marry a bizarre plot with fast, effective and easy to interpret gameplay, putting it within everyone's reach. Unfortunately, however, the game after so many battles is repetitive, re-proposing with forcing different enemies that we encounter throughout the story. The “within everyone's reach” level goes up to a certain point, after which the player would like to try a higher level of difficulty and challenge, which only happens when approaching the end of the adventure. To save this situation, the multiplayer mode enters, able to offer greater degrees of challenge. Weak also the attempt to give character to the sprites, trying to color them with Pokemon or Yokai tones, to try to make the battles more exciting.
