The Golf Club 2 - Review

With The Golf Club 2 the guys from Hb studios they try again: about years after The Golf Club that had impressed us with its editor, we are offered the revised and corrected sequel. Compared to the predecessor, the contents are greater and the layout is more complete and captivating.

Simplifying Golf to "put a ball in a hole with a club" is rather simplistic, here we are faced with a difficult title to master like the sport it brings into our homes.

    SPA-GHE-TTI !!!!

It begins with a complete tutorial which, however, suggests the path taken by the developers. From now on, technical terms are used or techniques are shown without particular explanations on when to use them. In short, if you are not familiar with real golf some steps will not be so simple, especially once on the field.

You pass from the speed of execution of the swing (to be performed with the analog stick) to the rhythm of the same, to the influence of the wind, types of blows, loft of the clubs, and much more.

Golf is not a sport for everyone

Once we have created our virtual alter ego with a complete editor, we are thrown into the field. From the very start, you understand that the learning curve is very steep and shoots upwards in an instant. Often the gameplay will test our patience, but we are facing a golf simulation that contains nothing of arcade.

So let's forget the simplified controls of Rory McIlroy PGA Tour nor the hyper-colored special effects in the style of Everybody's golf: prepare yourself for an important level of challenge, even if it could alienate the less patient or newcomers of the genre.

    Green hell

As already mentioned we will use the analog stick to impart the strength of our shot by simulating the action of the swing with the lever, as well as where to consider where to land the ball, the slope of the ground, the type and the wind, all making a movement as fluid as possible so as not to run into limp shots or with lopsided trajectories.

But the challenge in the challenge will be to master the stroke with the putt where precision and a reading of the terrain worthy of the Tiger Woods of the good times will be required. This is actually more due to the stick calibration in this shot, where the curse will be around the corner for having thrown away the birdie of victory.

Fortunately, an update has been released that has improved the situation from the first games.

See you in the club house

The first chapter of The Golf Club was really crude in terms of content. To remedy this Career modes and clubs have been added to The Golf Club 2. In the first possibility the player has the possibility to create his own racing circuit to improve his handicap and earn credits. While in the clubs it is possible to create your own club in which to organize tournaments with other members.

On balance, the clubs are nothing more than a career open to other gaming companies where it is possible to register for other clubs' tournaments. In doing so, it is possible to challenge other players to earn the game currency in order to unlock items for your alter ego and for your company.

There is a hole to move

Among the various modes, we find the field editor inherited and improved, which allows you to create both the layout of a field and each individual area.

This features allows the HB-Studios game to increase its longevity providing the most geeks with an excellent editor in which they can have fun creating any type of situation, and the user of the contents an almost infinite number of fields on which to play.

The Golf Club 2 - Review

The Golf Club accompanies us to the discovery of golf with a few slaps to the morale and some uncertainty in the gameplay and in the framerate, but on the videogame scene it is the best of its kind.
