Imagine if, at some point in their hilarious adventures, Asterix and Obelix they learned of the businesses of Kratos and they had made up their minds to emulate him, trying to brutally exterminate the entire Celtic pantheon.
Curious situation, right? This is, in practice, what awaits us in Gods will fall, bizarre action developed by Clever Beans and distributed by Deep Silver, ready to land on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S and Nintendo Switch on January 29th, of which we were able to actively test a beta version together with the developers .
Gods Will Fall puts us in the shoes not of a single hero, but of an entire tribe, who miraculously escaped the shipwreck that occurred while we were attempting, together with another multitude of Gallic tribes, the final assault on the mysterious and dangerous Island of the Gods. Our ultimate goal is therefore to free the human race from the oppression of the latter.
The Gods in fact turned out to be abominable and ancient (as well as extremely powerful) creatures of treacherous and cruel nature. A real mortal danger for our species, which must be eliminated at all costs and definitively.
Too bad that these divine monstrosities, as already mentioned, are also immensely powerful, so much so as to unleash a terrible storm on the invasion fleet, wreaking havoc and massacring all the crews. All but one: ours, of course.
So we start with our small group of killers banged on a beach, ready to freely explore the island and its dungeons, or the lairs of the gods themselves. Those that we were able to face in our test were 5 (out of a total of 10) one for each God that we will be called to challenge, and they differ from each other not only for the setting, but also for the number and the kind of creatures that populate it.
In fact, each divinity has its own personal court of monstrosities that venerate it, whose faith feeds the very power of the god. In order to have a minimum chance of overthrowing the divinity we will therefore have to try to weaken its power. And to do this, there is only one way: to exterminate as many of his followers as possible before reaching the direct confrontation.
Each dungeon can be tackled by controlling one hero at a time, while the rest of the tribe will wait outside the dungeon. Each champion has his own characteristic traits - which may change during the course of the adventure - a predilection for a certain type of weapon and a different with each of the other members of the group.
The type of that exists between the heroes is important, because from this derives a whole series of bonuses or penalties that are activated in case of success ... or permanent death! When one of our champions falls, it will no longer be possible to revive him, our group will therefore be more and more weakened and the dungeon will be faced again with another character., animated by an unstoppable thirst for revenge against the assassins of the previous challenger.
From this "road test", Gods Will Fall comes out particularly well, presenting itself as a very interesting title, with stimulating mechanics and a decidedly above average gameplay. Once we understand the movesets of the various types of weapons and have become familiar with our group of warriors (which will be different at each run), we will find ourselves in the blink of an eye studying tactics and strategies to better face this or that Divinity. .
The Gods then, as well as their monstrous followers, are very well made from the iconographic and technical side, and constitute (for what we have been able to experience directly), various boss fights, fun and never banal.
We therefore gladly await the official release of Gods Will Fall, hoping that it will keep intact the charm and fun that we found during this test. If everything goes as we hope, in January the Gods will fall once and for all!
