In video games, the medieval setting is always recurring and welcome, whether it is very reinvented as in The Witcher 3 or more faithful and similar to what the story has told us as in Kingdom Come: Deliverance. This time we bring you the preview of a title that is more tending to the second genre just mentioned, from the title Medieval Dynasty.
It is an action and role-playing game published by Toplitz Productions and developed by Render Cube and it's a product belonging to the same franchise as Farmer's Dynasty and Lumberjack's Dynasty.
The player plays the young Racimir, the son of a peasant family and who loses everything he holds dear to the war. Finding himself alone and with nothing, he heads north, to those lands of Europe that have always been described by his mother as a pleasant place where he can independently start a new and thriving life.
Following in the footsteps of his uncle who in the past had also moved to the same place to find wealth and fortune, Racimir sets himself the goal of becoming a great landowner and consequently creating a prestigious and wealthy dynasty.
Medieval Dynasty is - just like its aforementioned brothers - extremely farming based. But don't dwell only on this statement because the gameplay is that of a town building, however, consisting of mechanics typical of role-playing games. In fact, there will be a large amount of skills that can be acquired relating to different sectors, such as that concerning the collection of stone and wood or that dedicated to hunting and fishing.
We are talking about capturing or killing animals because there is a small survival aspect of the game, which consists as usual of the genre in not dying of hunger and thirst. In the first case it is necessary to hunt wild animals and then cook the meat obtained, in the second case it is enough to drink from the rivers that the unspoiled nature offers in the surroundings.
But a true feudal lord must have subjects, and to obtain them it is necessary to convince the independent inhabitants present in the nearby inhabited places. To achieve this goal it will be necessary to make oneself known, solve problems, accomplish quests, and finally provide for the needs of every citizen. By doing so, with a lot of calm and patience, you will create a real empire that you can manage. In short, the player will have to very slowly build a name that will remain forever in the history of his dynasty.
The handyman's work, however, is not as simple as it seems: you have to plow and cultivate the land in a certain season and then collect the result later, take care of your livestock that will provide various resources, finally work the materials obtained and sell them to merchants for make a high profit.
For the realization of the Medieval Dynasty graphic sector, it was decided to use Unreal Engine, with which an environment is built almost devoid of any form of civilization and rich in light colors. The scenario in front of us is in fact filled with the green of the ground and trees, which is sometimes slightly interrupted by the houses of the small villages present in the large game map.
The models don't have very defined edges, and are basically very square. Not to mention the aesthetics of the teenage characters, who clearly resemble forty-year-olds and therefore do not in any way reflect their age. When you are inside the dense forest, the light makes its way between the leaves of the trees in a very sweet way, thus creating a remarkable visual spectacle. Nothing to complain about the very quiet and company soundtrack, made with the typical instruments of medieval music.
While you are working hard to bring home the loaf si will often loom over some problems due to Medieval Dynasty Early Access. The pack includes animals that interpenetrate each other, animations that don't quite work, and lights that turn on intermittently.
Medieval Dynasty is a very special management video game set in the Middle Ages and with mechanics never seen within a similar historical context. Early access already has enough content to say that without a doubt the title is worth buying. However, we must consider the various problems currently present, and have the patience to overcome them to fully enjoy the very varied gameplay proposed by the title.
