A few days ago we were in the offices of Nintendo to try it in preview Yoshi's Crafted World, next title dedicated to the important green dinosaur from Nintendo, coming out on Nintendo Switch on March 29; a demo version is also already available on Nintendo eShop for a few days.
Yoshi's Crafted World remains faithful to what has already been seen in Woolly World, proposing the formula of the classic platform, but deepening some aspects to make an adventure with a nostalgic but above all satisfying flavor layered and non-trivial. The character of Yoshi's Crafted World emerges from the very first moments: a colorful world, made of recycled objects (hence Crafted) used to create the various levels of the game. Used milk boxes, cans, cardboard houses, pencils, pins and so on and so forth.
The world of Yoshi seems to have been created during an intensive manual activity session with the children and this, while respecting the value of Yoshi, is a fundamental aspect. An inspired world, therefore, that does not only look after aesthetics; the playful side is in fact preponderant and then Yoshi will have to interact in different ways with the game environment, using his skills to create new ways of passage or to solve some environmental puzzles that are not too trivial.
The main feature of this Yoshi is the ability to interact not only with the elements close to you but also with everything that makes up the diorama, the real foundation of the game level. Throwing an egg towards an element in the distance or in the foreground towards a cardboard template, for example, will allow you to obtain additional collectibles (flowers and / or coins), but above all to discover the thousands of secrets that are hidden in the various levels. Yoshi's Crafted World wants the player to rediscover the pleasure of curiosity, the pleasure of discovery and forget the classic platforming rush of completion. The title will offer timed missions, "non-canonical" platform levels, if we want to call them so, precisely to give variety also from this point of view. In short, despite a conservative gameplay in Yoshi's skills, it is everything that constitutes the outline that is innovative.
Yoshi's Crafted World seems to be the sum of an expertise accumulated from 1990 to today, since in fact Yoshi made his debut in a Nintendo game. The 2019 title seems to offer everything that allowed Yoshi to be an icon. with the addition of the right elements capable of rejuvenating his personal vision of the platform genre. Even co-op, thanks to the characteristics of the Switch, is very well structured, fun and enjoyable. The two Yoshis can interact very well with each other, creating funny situations between the players (I know you will all eat immediately without warning, marpioni!) But also excellent opportunities for interaction with the environment through strategic choices and combinations between the two characters. In short, not only did Yoshi's Crafted World seem like an excellent title in itself, but above all it seemed to us that it was able to exploit all the benefits of Nintendo Switch to relaunch a character like Yoshi with a very important history.
Yoshi's Crafted World will be out in a little over a month but our impressions of the title have been more than positive. The title wants to maintain a conservative spirit of the brand by opening up to an expansion of the depth of approaches. In short, young and old can approach this title with different needs without fear of not being satisfied. Although we will have to wait for the review for the final judgment, Yoshi's Crafted World is preparing to debut on the market starting from excellent premises.
