Like a bolt from the blue, after the exciting showcase dedicated to Resident Evil Village, Capcom decides to delight all PlayStation 5 owners (generating discontent for all those who are still waiting to own one) with a technical demo called "Maiden".
Let's start immediately with outlining an important concept: Maiden is a technical demo, ergo, gameplay reduced to a minimum, focusing everything on the primary purpose of this experience, which is the demonstration of the power of the RE Engine on PlayStation 5. Peter Fabiano was very clear in describing how much the new PlayStation hardware has allowed the development team to model the spatiality of 3D audio in an even more meticulous way and we can guarantee you that from the very first moments of the demo you will be captured by the sonic fidelity created by Capcom.
In Maiden we will find ourselves in the role of a protagonist - Maiden, in fact - who wakes up in the basement of the Dimitrescu castle (place where part of the events in Resident Evil Village will take place), our aim? Run away. A short escape room designed specifically to show players the evolution of the scenarios of the next chapter of Resident Evil which now appear more detailed than ever with a sumptuous glance that allows, the most attentive eyes, to notice the many small details that testify to the step forward compared to the already excellent Resident Evil 7.
The set of different technologies including the 3D audio and Ray Tracing make sure this Resident Evil Village tech demo You are increasingly delineating the possibilities of immersion in a gloomy game world where every single noise, every single shadow that moves fleetingly, can instill in us a fright or an increase in heartbeat.
The demo also allows us to face (or rather, escape) from one of the daughters who live inside the castle and, although we currently have no confirmation, we believe it highly likely that also in Resident Evil Village there will be perennial pursuers in line with Mr. X and the famous Nemesis, but beyond that the demo does not allow us to do anything else and concludes the events of this Maiden who meets her destiny.
Resident Evil Village Maiden is a technical demo that perfectly succeeds in its intent: to intrigue those who await the new chapter of the saga with a first taste of the narrative background and, at the same time, amaze on the technical aspect for an excellent audio system that manages to direct 3D spatiality thanks to PlayStation 5's Tempest technology. Between textures, reflections and plays of light governed by Ray Tracing, Capcom has been able to give a small but tasty appetizer in view of an eighth chapter that has all the potential to overcome the success of predecessors.
