The new features introduced in LAUGH 4 su PC e console, with the dynamic weather that can suddenly upset a race, it makes it essential to achieve a certain mastery of the bike even in wet track conditions. If at first sight the wet has always been your black beast, know that there are some techniques and tricks that, if kept, help a lot to have a functional and effective driving style.
So let's see some tips to clarify the areas in which to act and the elements to pay attention to. These tips are also very valid in the dry, but in the wet they become essential to face wet races or with sudden weather changes.
Graduality in the movements
This is a tip that must also be kept in dry conditions, but in the wet its usefulness increases exponentially. Always keep one thing in mind: the bike is the exact mirror of the movements you are making on the pad: if you steer violently and are too generous on the accelerator or brake, this will immediately translate into violent and nervous reactions from the bike, drastically raising the level of difficulty and making it really difficult to set off good times.
Be gentle, both in the fold and in the movements, because losing grip is really very easy.
Braking with the bike upright
It would seem obvious advice on a game like Ride 4, but this is not the case: normally on the track you need to bring a lot of speed into the corners, entering with the brake in hand looking for the rope point immediately, and then pick up the bike and accelerate as soon as possible. In the wet, it is necessary to be as “round” as possible in the trajectories, in such a way as not to have to accelerate abruptly with the bike bent and not to have to enter the curve with the brake in hand, because at that point the front closure is practically inevitable. When you see the water, do not be frightened, brake with the bike straight and only when you have slowed down enough release the brake and gradually insert the bike into the curve.
It is true that to do this type of operation you have to stay wider at the entrance and therefore go further, but this it will allow you to be more fluid and gradual in folding the bike, to the benefit of driving cleanliness.
Use the engine brake
It seems like a strange advice to give, but it is among the most important if you want to drive strong in the wet: helping yourself with the gearbox to brake has always been one of the most used techniques in driving on a wet track and it also works on Ride 4, so forget the automatic transmission e learn to manage the downshifting on your own. Doing so will make it easier to stop the bike when braking, to the benefit of the smooth ride.
Choose the correct gear ratio
This is an element underestimated by many, but which in reality, if well understood, totally changes life on the track. Always remember that you go faster by exploiting the maximum torque rather than the high engine rpm, so if your bike has peak torque at 9000 rpm, fly the pointer over that figure with the rear skidding at every corner, it is as spectacular as it is useless and harmful.
When the rear tire slips, it overheats and wears out very quickly, leaving you with the finished tire sooner than expected. In the wet this aspect is increased exponentially both in real and in Ride 4, due to the lack of grip: if your riding style leads you to cross the bike very often, it is time to work on this aspect by stretching a little. the gear ratio. A powerful bike like a 1000 superbike has so much power that it does not need to have short gears to reach high speeds in a short time, therefore lengthening the gear ratios just enough helps to reduce the phenomenon of rear tire skidding.
Manage traction
In the wet it is not so much the maximum speed that matters, as much as being able to give the bike as much traction as possible, otherwise you can't get out of the curves and you lose a lot in terms of timing. Memorize this concept: every time the bike slips during acceleration, you are losing precious tenths. If you don't believe it, take any bike on Ride 4, choose a track you know well, set the wet weather and take a ride as you are used to. Then try to apply these concepts and you will realize for yourself how high the improvements are.
In addition to an adequate gear ratio, handle the throttle well and, especially, shift gears long before the point you are used to or where the algorithm that manages the insertion of the higher gear changes. At the beginning the feeling will be that of being much more “firm” and therefore less fast, but once you have crossed the finish line, you will have some nice surprises. Magic? Not at all, the rear skating and spinning it's just a waste of time and more tire wearBeing able to avoid this phenomenon allows you to do many more meters and have a much less demanding guide.
Work on the set-up
Adopt a dry set-up in the wet, perhaps very rigid and devoted to the responsiveness of the bike when changing direction, it is strongly not recommended. The lack of grip in fact amplifies any abrupt reaction and, at the slightest lack of grip, the bike could become really unmanageable. If you participate in an endurance or race where climate change is expected, remember not to make a completely dry trim but to always seek a compromise, in order to be effective in any climatic condition.
In fact, races are not won only by making qualifying laps, but by managing the tires and race pace while running as little risk as possible.
