In the new Bloober Team title, The Medium - released on Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X and PC - some of the first most difficult puzzles of the entire adventure are present, inside the abandoned resort Niwa.
Once you encounter the mysterious Sadness in the lobby and repair the elevator to look for her on the second floor, you will find yourself on the lower level of the resort. Here you will find a vase and the Moth Corridor, one of the places where you might find yourself stuck. This puzzle forces you to use all of the game mechanics learned so far, including the ability to follow Sadness's ghostly footsteps in the hotel room. Once you have solved the first part of the puzzle, the rest could run smoothly, but in case you need further instructions below you will find a detailed guide on how to proceed.
The Vase Enigma - How to Cross the Moth Corridor in The Medium
Once you go up to the second floor, you will surely have met the moths. You will also have found the key to the hotel room with the extra body experience and you will have gone downstairs.
Taking stock of the situation in the surrounding area reveals some interesting things:
- A vessel that resembles a spiritually charged altar to the spirit world
- An old prescription in the foreground
- A book of poems by William Blake, from which it is possible to reconstruct a memory from the balcony window
- A letter and a container of pills in the bathroom window
- A dead end with thousands of moths blocking the path
- A skin barrier that blocks entry into a room
The next move is to load the altar of the vase in order to load the spiritual shield and thus be able to cross the wall of moths. When you go to interact with the altar you will notice that it doesn't have enough charge, since something is missing.
Immediately after the altar, interact with the old prescription and the book of poems, to start reconstructing the history of the area you are in.
You can also interact with the other objects for additional textures, but for the purposes of the main storyline this is not necessary.
Overcoming the skin barrier in The Medium
Once you are done, go to the balcony. You will still be missing the item needed to cut the skin barrier to continue into the next room. To obtain it, it is necessary to have an out-of-body experience alongside the barrier.
If you look closely, you will notice that in the spirit world the walkway is not that dilapidated and will allow you to get to another area. Within this area there is another memory to reconstruct, a (empty) vase to interact with and a hole in the wall that leads into the adjacent room.
Interact with the hole and, after the cutscene, enter the newly revealed bathroom. Drain the bathtub and once the water is removed you will find inside it a blade made of shame and regret.
Once armed with a blade, end the out-of-body experience and return to the material world.
Solve the last part of the vase puzzle in The Medium
Now you can interact with the skin barrier and cut it with the razor. You will find yourself in the material version of the room you have just visited and you will notice that there is something different. The main difference is that inside the previously empty vase you will now find a dried sunflower. This sunflower is the same that the doctor gives to Ursula in the first part of reconstruction of the memory.
Once you have collected the sunflower, go back to the first room and place it in the vase. This move will charge the altar so that the light is powerful enough to feed the spiritual shield allowing you to walk through the moth corridor.
This concludes our guide on how to solve the puzzle of the vase and continue through the corridor of the moths in The Medium.
