It would appear that the sequel to The Outer Worlds is currently in pre-development, and is believed to be in the very early stages of development. Niko Partners analyst Daniel Ahmad said a new game from The Outer Worlds series is "in exploration and pre-production".
As Bethesda was recently acquired by Microsoft, it is likely that if The Outer Worlds 2 is developing in development then the latter. it will be published in the future directly by Microsoft and not by the Private Division.
