Well yes, the hardest choice in any RPG - and The Outer Worlds is no exception - is decide your character's starting stats during the very first phase of creation. This difficulty is given above all by the fact that starting a new adventure we do not know what we are actually going to meet; the fear of each player is to make wrong choices about the skills, attitudes and attributes of their character which will then negatively affect the course of the entire adventure.
But do not worry, with this guide we will give you all the advice you need to point your favorite in the right direction.
If you already have experience in games similar to The Outer Worlds, such as the classics of Bethesda (The Elder Scrolls, Fallout), you will certainly be less afraid of the choice of Attributes and Skills of the character. In The Outer Worlds you will have various statistics that will affect the skills in play, as well as your behaviors will shape the s and interactions you will have with other characters.
Character Attributes in The Outer Worlds
In the Obsidian title, Attributes play a fundamental role and form the basis of one's character. Keep in mind that they they will direct your protagonist towards a specific path and give him small "initial stimuli" to then access a very wide variety of skills. In The Outer Worlds, starting Attributes cannot be increased or decreased by leveling up and will result in some dialogues that you can unlock in-game. There are some objects that interact with Attributes and you can also choose to accepting flaws in your character during the game to earn bonus points in exchange for an Attribute debuff to rebalance your character. However, reducing your Attributes below average will result in severe penalties, so we strongly advise against doing this if this is your first game in The Outer Worlds.
During the initial creation of the character you will have at your disposal 6 points that you can assign to Attributes. The addition of such points not only increases the base value of the affected skills, but will also grant you a bonus. For example, the Ultra High Resistance skill increases the amount of equipment you can carry as well as significantly improving melee damage.
In Outer Worlds, Attributes do not change the appearance of the character, however they are extremely important for the RPG itself. If you wish to interpret a cunning character who always says the right thing in any conversation, Intelligence and Perception will be indispensable to pass the Attributes check. If, on the other hand, you bet on the Charm you can receive more rewards during the quest, even if Persuasion in these cases turns out to be much more effective. Obsidian would have stated that in The Outer Worlds there would also be some particularly funny and stupid dialogue options for characters with lower than average intelligence. If you want to have a laugh, this is for you!
The Skills in The Outer Worlds
During the character creation phase you will also receive two bonuses that can be used to increase three groups of Skills by 10 points. In The Outer Worlds, characters use real Skills more than Attributes and High Skills will allow you to unlock different dialogue options during conversations. Every 20 skill points it will be possible to unlock special bonuses, some of which will prove to be extremely useful.
Speaking instead of the paraphernalia it is certainly tempting to play the gunslinger, especially because in The Outer Worlds the first weapons that you will receive will be guns. However, you will have very quick access to a wide range of weapons, including long-barreled pistols. The latter are, without a doubt, the best within the Obsidian title but, we must admit, not really the most fun to use in an RPG.
For all players with a long tongue and a trigger "but also not", we recommend dedicating yourself to the Stealth and Dialogue skills. In any case whatever the temperament of your character we advise you to always increase the Hacking and Burglary skillsotherwise you risk losing several XP and lots of loot. The skills dedicated to technology instead will give you access to very interesting dialogue options, but try not to abuse them otherwise they will turn against you towards the last bars of the game. They are useful, yes, but we recommend that you focus more on other skills.
We draw conclusions
Here we are at the end of our guide to character creation in The Outer Worlds. Attitudes and Skills can make your life easier in different situations, but don't worry too much about the choice: remember that some of them will only earn you a single point bonus in some statistics. So don't worry too much about what you are going to choose and think about having fun!
