After bringing the Emperor's Light up PC, the guys from NeocoreGames they decided to evoke the inquisition on our home consoles as well, by converting Warhammer 40.000: Inquisitor - Martyr also on ours PlayStation 4Xbox One.

Warhammer 40.000: Inquisitor - Martyr is an Action / RPG “à la Diablo" distributed by Bigben Interactive and set in the dark and gruesome techno-fantasy universe invented by Games Workshop. The game takes its name from a gigantic spaceship of the Imperial Inquisition, the Martyr, which disappeared millennia ago in the storms of the Warp and which, mysteriously, has recently reappeared in the remote Caligaris sector where - with worrying timing - an attempt has also begun. of chaotic corruption on a large scale.

These plot and setting elements are identical to those proposed in the PC game, to which our review I refer you for more details. Instead, let's take into consideration the differences that characterize the console version.

Warhammer 40.000: Inquisitor - Martyr - PlayStation 4 Review

First of all, immediately after installing the game, you realize that this version of Martyr has been partially localized in the Spanish language. The cutscenes and spoken dialogues always remain in English but subtitled, while the interface, the tests and the various documents that we will find during our adventure are translated entirely into Spanish. Too bad the quality of the translation leaves a lot to be desired and, a marginal problem but still present, the subtitles are written with really microscopic characters and which easily get confused with the scenario in which we are moving. Another substantial difference between the two versions of the game is, of course, the control system.

Playing a game like Warhammer 40.000: Inquisitor - Martyr with the joypad is certainly not the most comfortable choice, but the console editions have tried to get around the obstacle by mapping the whole series of actions that can be performed in the game that did not concern the spine. the main attacks and, a much more radical choice, adding a sort of "auto lock" on the opponent in the closest firing line, which is not absolutely necessary if you play with mouse and keyboard.

While the skill checks are ultimately very practical and intuitive, this kind of aiming assist hasn't been successful in our opinion. During the most agitated firefights, or during one of the numerous boss fights, it may be essential to aim for a specific objective while temporarily leaving out all the others. If with the mouse it was enough to point the cursor at the target, in this version the thing is considerably more difficult. This new type of lock on, moreover, seems to work best, almost benefiting them, with the builds of our inquisitors based on close-range or melee weapons (and there are so many), but it will prove to be a real nightmare if you choose to interpret a killer, specializing in ultra-long range weapons.

The right stick, therefore free from the task of aiming, was used to rotate the view of the environment, an action that turns out to be much more immediate than on a PC and which, of course, will be used more often, going to change, even if not by much, the style of play.

On the technical side, we can not help but notice a certain graphic downgrade compared to the computer version, especially in the details of both environments and characters, while remaining on an absolutely more than decent level. Too bad, however, that there are the same slowdowns that also occurred in the PC version, especially with a high number of enemies on the screen.

Warhammer 40.000: Inquisitor - Martyr - PlayStation 4 Review

Warhammer 40.000: Inquisitor - Martyr is therefore confirmed as an ideal title for fans of the saga given that the atmosphere of the setting is made really well. However, the version we tested on PlayStation 4, is clearly inferior to the one for computers, especially due to a lower graphic rendering and some choices (obligatory) for the controls on the joypad. A full pass, but nothing more.
