The coronavirus, among many things, has postponed a whole series of events, including the Fan Festivals dedicated to Final Fantasy XIV where the new expansions of the game were announced and in-depth. During the digital event that replaced the Fan Festivals of this 2021, Naoki Yoshida, producer and director of FFXIV, has announced Endwalker, the new expansion which will close the gigantic story arc started with A Realm Reborn.
The expansion it will arrive towards the end of 2021 and will introduce two new jobs, one of these is the Sage, a new healer that will fill the scarce number of classes dedicated to that role. The Sage will use weapons called Nouliths, with which they will heal, support and do damage in the party.
The second job has not been revealed, but it will be a melee DPS and will have to do with the dead (necromancer?), Given the shirt sported by Yoshida during the presentation.
Like any expansion, there will be new cities, new tribes, rebalancing, a new level cap (90), new endgame activities and, above all, new Primals to battle, including Anima from Final Fantasy X.
Endwalker represents patch 6.0 and will conclude the history of the Garlean empire and, in particular, the events related to Hydaelyn and Zodiark. Starting with patch 6.1, a new story arc will be told to set the new foundations for the future of FFXIV.
A PS5 version will go into open beta on April 13th which will introduce technical improvements such as 4K support, higher frame rates and faster loading times. Patch 5.5 will be released on the same day and will serve as a prologue to Endwalker events.
More information will be revealed during the next digital Fan Fest to be held in May. Meanwhile, Yoshida was keen to specify that despite his role as producer of the next Final Fantasy XVI, he will guarantee the same quality and attention to the XIV as he always has.
