Everybody's Golf VR - Review

Review for Everybody's Golf VR. Game for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR, the video game was released on 12/06/2019

Is golf a sport for the rich? Never! The Minna No Golf series, born in Japan in the mid-90s by the hand of Camelot and known - to most people - in the West as Everybody's Golf, has always had the ability to convey a playful activity to the great masses of gamers as elitist as golf in a simple, usable and decidedly user-friendly way.

Everybody's Golf VR - Review

After having raged on virtually all Sony platforms thanks to the fantastic guys of Clap Hanz - talented development team able to take the reins of the project in place of Camelot without a shot being fired - the franchise finally decides to set foot in the varied universe of creations specifically designed to be played with PlayStation VR. An intriguing prospect, that of being able to play Everybody's Golf VR in virtual reality, but will it be true glory?

Let's face it right away: no. Going in order, Everybody's Golf VR reaches chords that are definitely appreciated by fans of the genre, providing the homo ludens with a club control system that using the Dualshock 4 leaves something to be desired, but that with PlayStation Move manages to more or less faithfully reproduce the movement. The problem is that club-ball collisions do not always appear very reliable and, considering the fact that the impact with the sphere makes all the difference in this world between the achievement of a flattering result and a sensational defeat, this important defect corroborates that sense of hope that emerges on the occasion of any shot. Fortunately, a test mode allows the gamer to simulate the shot before the final impact, correspondingly observing the future trajectory and helping to mitigate, even if slightly, that feeling that part of the success is also related to a good dose of luck rather than the skill of the player. An impression certainly mitigated by practice, but which is never completely eradicated with decision.

Everybody's Golf VR - Review

On the content side, the Sony franchise has always accustomed us to one cornucopia of extra content to unlockand jealously guard a tradition which - evidently - Everybody's Golf VR prefers not to stick, at least for now. Although it is not unimaginable a future, probable expansion of the playful elements with which it is possible to juggle in-game (paid DLC?), One cannot but think about how, in the face of a non-indifferent outlay equal to € 29,99, the amount of elements to play with is currently quite small.

No Championship mode, no online multiplayer mode but only the possibility of taking part, alone, in one of the three courses present, in an attempt to beat their own records. As a corollary to such a small offer, a practice mode in which to try a whole series of shots, with the aim of reaching the test of the field in the most prepared way possible.

If both the playability and the number of elements in support of the gameplay are not in line with the standards of the series, a different speech can be made in the graphic field. The engine used by the developers to render the colorful world of Everybody's Golf VR, in fact, manages to move a good number of polygons and offer defined and varied textures, opening up before the eyes of the gamer decidedly engaging landscapes and settings, also considering the endemic limits of PlayStation VR. On the other hand, the proposed dubbing is bordering on embarrassing, entirely in Spanish (fortunately the specific weight of this defect is close to zero, especially in such a title).

Everybody's Golf VR - Review

Everybody's Golf VR is a title that, while certainly not representing the most adorable golfing production existing on the globe, is able to unleash an appreciable dose of happiness. Too bad that both the quantity of content present and the doubts relating to the control system (especially in the case of playing with a Dual Shock 4) do not contribute to increasing the value of a game more than enough, but that on balance it does not manages to provide nothing more.
