Review for Fallout 4 VR. PC game, the video game came out on 12/12/2017

Take a sip of Nuka-Cola, it's time to find out if a return to the nuclear wastelands of America in the 2200s is worth 60 caps. I'll assume you already know what we're talking about, after all you survived to this day. Naah, I don't mean those mammolette simulations with mouse, pad or keyboard you are used to: I'm talking about… virtual reality, thanks to Fallout 4 VR.

Fallout 4 VR - Review

The beautiful house of Sanctuary and Vault 111 are preparing once again to serve as a prelude to our odyssey, the contents are in fact offered to us in an unchanged way compared to the original game, not a single object or dialogue is out of place.

Left Arm, right arm

Ready to take our first steps inside the well-known structure, we wore ours HTC Vive and we ran into the difficult choice of the preferred movement system. Bethesda has shown that it has listened to and listened to the opinions of the most diverse users, opting for the implementation of all functional movement systems on the market.

Players afflicted with motion sickness, that seasick-like vomiting sensation caused by direct motion in vr, will be able to take advantage of a system of slim and functional teleportation, very similar to the one seen in Doom VFR. The direct movement is available in two versions, both with navigation via the left trackpad. The first involves moving in an unobstructed view, while the other offers a blurring of the contours during travel for those who prefer the enjoyment of adventure step by step, albeit sensitive to locomotion disturbances.

In addition to movement, the left arm will soon be destined to interact with the iconic element of the saga: a beautiful one Pip boy torn from a corpse. To consult the beloved contraption, simply rotate the wrist (the same movement as consulting the watch) and the interface will naturally enlarge, allowing us to navigate through an intuitive and functional trackpad. Let's not be under too much illusions however, Fallout 4 VR remains a title tangled in a boundless jungle of menus and, although navigation may be usable, in virtual reality it will never be pleasant.

How to ka-boom

The use of the right hand is dedicated to war: this is the hand that will operate powerful guns and he will wield titanic spiked clubs and wicked bloodthirsty switchblades. To mow with a melee weapon it will be enough to shake the Vive controller against the enemies as obsessed, while to shoot we will have to rely on our aim and fire with the right trigger. The key just above the trackpad is dedicated to the spav, ssystem of pgreasing aassisted vault-tec. Headshot shouting has never been easier.

To use objects and weapons, however, it is not enough to collect them and use them as we would in any other vr title: faithful to the original Fallout 4, the usable ones will be included in the inventory and from there selected for use, perhaps added to the practice wheel of favorite weapons.

Interactions with the environment, such as opening or closing a door, are victims of the same intricacy that more than anything else makes you turn up your nose. Instead of turning the handle and pulling or pushing, we'll just have to press the interaction key (the central controller) and the door will open automatically, robbing us of the suspension of matured disbelief.

Fallout 4 VR - Review

After familiarizing ourselves with the controls and being evaded from the Vault we can begin our adventure and get to the heart of the game, getting lost without stopping between one quest and another in a messy wandering. If Fallout 4 guaranteed an excellent level of alienation, letting minutes pass as if they were seconds, in virtual reality the dive is even deeper, the realistic scares and the believable world. The idyll is interrupted by the physical limits of the player, a human being with limited stamina, who will be physiologically forced to rest several times, drenched in sweat.

Did someone say patch?

Fallout 4 VR is the antithesis of plug and play, released with a patch to be applied manually and suffering from infinite problems of blur, blurring, drop fps and a questionable application of anti aliasing; before being able to give you an optimal experience, it will require a few hours of unintuitive settings. We are helped by a providential infinity of tutorials on Youtube able to clarify many resolutions a issues that shouldn't have occurred at all.

The good news is that after fixing all the affected parameters, the game will flow nicely without any problems. However, if you are fast of computer language, this step could be difficult to the point of completely denying you the opportunity to play decently.

Fallout 4 VR - Review

Fallout 4 VR represents a real video game revolution in virtual reality, which sees Bethesda was the absolute pioneer of the genre, providing the port that represents the culmination of this generation of headsets along with Skyrim for PS VR and Doom VFR. A genre that until recently lived more than games, of short demos lasting a maximum of a few hours (Arizona Sunshine was the greatest exponent). The basics are there, our viewers have mauled the ports, now they're hungry for native titles.
