Have you ever played a game and thought "I really hope no one comes into the house right now"? Good,  Gal * Gun: Double Peace it's definitely one of those games. In truth our goal is to find true love, the problem is that in the meantime we have to "hit" girls until they reach the peak of "euphoria" if you know what we mean.

Welcome to Gal * Gun: Double Peace, a game that, while fun and enjoyable, is definitely one that falls into the "perverse" category of our collection. Developed by Inti Creates and published by PQube for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita, which recently also landed on Steam, Gal * Gun: Double Peace is here to make us smile and question our actions. The game hits the mark when it comes to getting lots of laughs with crude jokes that will be common to those familiar with this style of play.

Gal * Gun: Double Peace is a rail shooter where you have limited control over the movements of the characters. We will look around to move the cursor on the screen in order to take aim at the hordes of girls who will run towards us. However, we should act quickly if we are to survive the day and find our true love. We will not find the same freedom as other track-side shooters like Time Crisis, with its cover system, or House of the Dead. Rather, Gal * Gun: Double Peace breaks path choices into individual locations where we're going to play the respective level - no matter where we go, we'd have to face hordes of girls everywhere trying to earn the best score possible.

Every girl we meet along the way will have a "sweet spot" and by hitting it we can earn extra points and make them fall in love with us faster, causing them to fall into a state of euphoria. It should come as no surprise that hitting most girls in the chest means getting a "one shot, one kill". Later however, the girls will begin to mix their attack methods and we should not only aim and shoot, but also hunt demons, peer through objects, collect them for side missions and avoid being trampled.

When we find ourselves surrounded, we will be able to use the Doki-Doki mode: one of the most interesting gameplay elements. By shooting one or more girls, we will end up somewhere with them and then move on to touch them in ways that will make her fall in love with us. For example, if we touch the butt well enough within the allotted time, we will get a large number of points and give the girl a great feeling. On paper it looks a lot more creepy than it actually is, seeing is believing. The Doki-Doki mode will allow us to hit three girls at the same time and, once finished, it will unleash a small explosion of love that will make all the girls fall on the screen. For this reason alone you will want to use Doki-Doki mode whenever possible as it can really help save our situation.

There are also some QTE-style mini games in which you'll have to help our beloved future waifus in some awkward situation. Having to help someone unstuck from a window is a good example, but given how much she seems to be enjoying herself, it can make her feel rather uncomfortable given the consistent length of the operation. Apparently this all fits into the story of Gal * Gun: Double Peace as you try to find true love: at first, you are hit by an overloaded arrow which means you will experience every chance in your life to find love in one day and unless you have confessed your true love, you will never be loved again in your end of day life.

THE FACT THAT YOU HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO ZOOM IN TO SEE THROUGH A GIRL'S DRESSES AND GET HER SIZE SAYS A LOT ABOUT GAL * GUN: DOUBLE PEACE

At the start of the game, we'll be hit by an obviously female, overburdened angel's arrow - which means we'll experience every chance in our life to find love in one day, and unless we confess our true love by sunset, we will never be loved again in life. The problem is that all the girls now want to be our mate, and once a demon gets involved and our childhood friends become demon hunters it all gets a little crazy.

Given the nature of the game, the title actually offers a "Mom Comes Screen" which is useful for quickly hiding the game when someone enters the room. This mode will quickly transform the game into a regular RPG to help players feel a little less embarrassed if someone passes by.

Gal * Gun: Double Peace - Review
Graphically Gal * Gun: Double Peace doesn't try to be the most visually stunning game, but it gives the best of its style. More important is the fact that the game runs at a solid and smooth frame rate (on PlayStation 4, avoid the PlayStation Vita version) throughout the entire experience. Audio is the other area where things are acceptable but not as big as they could have been, but really nice music is repetitive in the long run and the limit on the number of different sound effects makes the audio experience less memorable. Even the sounds of the girls get repetitive and we will soon drown in it as we focus only on making the most points.

What makes Gal * Gun: Double Peace good and enduring is that it offers multiple story branches and achievements that give the game a lasting appeal; the humor it offers, alongside the often poor writing, also creates a lot of laughter. We can't overlook the fact that there isn't much else to do though, which definitely makes it a niche game.

Gal * Gun: Double Peace - Review

Gal * Gun: Double Peace is a game that on the one hand makes you want to play it for long sessions and laugh out loud at the events unfolding in the story, but on the other hand the shortcomings in presentation, audio and variety can be decisive in deciding to leave it where it is. In general it is one of those games that either love or hate each other, and which without a healthy dose of irony is impossible to appreciate.
