How to change Netflix subtitles. Netflix has decent subtitles, but they can sometimes be difficult to read if they appear against a light background, or if your view isn't what it used to be. Fortunately, you can customize these subtitles to make them look the way you want. Here's how to change the size, font, color, background, and more.
How to change Netflix subtitles
To find the subtitle settings, open Netflix in your browser, hover your mouse over the profile icon in the top right corner and select Accounts.
Scroll down to "My Profile" and click "Appearance of Subtitles".
At the top, you will see a small window with a sample subtitle on a cloudy background. This will be updated every time you make a change, so you can see how the subtitles will look. Here are the options you can change:
- Make. This allows you to choose from supported font sets, including an italic font, a small font, and a font that looks dangerously close to Comic Sans. You can choose from eight pre-selected colors to display the text. You can also make the text semi-transparent.
- Text size. You can choose between small, medium and large text, but note that Netflix reports this. Big text takes up a huge chunk of the screen.
- Shadow. This allows you to choose from a few effects to help separate the text from the background. By default, Netflix uses a drop shadow, but you can also use a beveled or depressed effect, or choose Uniform for an outline around the entire text. Alongside the drop shadow, there is a color picker that you can use to change the shadow or outline to one of eight colors you can use for your font.
- Sfund. This creates a solid color background around only the text displayed on the screen.
- Window. This also creates a background behind your text
Play around with these settings until you find something you like. When done, click Save at the bottom of the page.
