Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 makes a fuss, curries hearts and, above all, remembers how difficult video games of yore were. An angry playful dirge praised to the sound of a few tens of bits, Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 exhumes the second part of the epic deeds of the blue robot made in Capcom, starting with the seventh chapter of the series, the only experiment natively published on Super Famicom back in 1995.
From there a quick roundup of playful ideas begins, an anthology of blasphemy that, passing through the eighth, pleistescionaro episode, culminates with the revival of the last two entries of the regular series, Mega Man 9 and Mega Man 10.
A creampie of pleasant old-fashioned, archaic-without-too-exaggeration, this digital junk is able to awaken the spirit of the old samurai, too often hidden among the offal of homo ludens waiting for something that could bring it back to light, hostage to prolonged sessions in the company of works that may be fantabulous, but not very biting from the point of view of difficulty.
A kick in the Zebedee would do less harm to the average gamer, the one accustomed to ready meals, compared to the nudges virtually offered by the wonderfully challenging level design offered in each of these four playful wonders.
But do not be afraid, those who fear for the safety of their coronaries: Capcom has well thought of introducing an option that, if taken into consideration, is able to halve the damage usually suffered, in addition to an automatic checkpoint system that mitigate frustration on more than one occasion.
There's something for everyone in Mega Man Legacy Collection 2. And we are not talking about the already overabundant amount of playful elements served up by this splendid quartet, which manifests in Mega Man 9 the probably highest point ever reached by the series, but about the additions that have been introduced to make this production even more attractive: remixed stages, challenge mode (boss rush and time attack included), music and image galleries.
The gross quality, very high, is also amplified by the discreet work of adaptation and restoration of the titles perpetuated by Capcom, although the extraordinary levels achieved by Digital Eclipse with the previous collection (and with The Disney Afternoon Collection) are not reached.
And it does not matter if the eighth iteration of the saga, the one conceived with PlayStation in mind, does not reach the same, sublime level of the other three titles available in this binary compendium: except for some downside, mainly related to the conception of some levels they present gameplay significantly different from the usual jump-and-shoot, Mega Man 8 is little less than massive.
Yet another nostalgia operation? Maybe. Of course, when the results are these, there is nothing to complain about. Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 embodies all the values that a collection should possess, constituting a damn recommended purchase, even almost necessary, if you are a lover of the creature popularized by Keiji Inafune. And now, please, full speed ahead with Mega Man X Legacy Collection…
