La second season of Minecraft: Story Mode is unfolding rather quickly: Jailhouse Block, third chapter of five, comes just over two months from Hero in Residence. The second episode, Giant Consequences, had laid a decent foundation for the future. Let's see if the promises have been kept.
prison Break
Jailhouse Block sees Jesse imprisoned in the Sunshine Institute, as anticipated the last scene of the previous chapter. The aim will obviously be to escape, but it will not be a simple undertaking. In this security prison built by Admin, our protagonist will meet many other characters: some are unpublished, and could have an important role in the future, while others are the supporting characters of the previous episodes.
The pace of this short episode (lasting about an hour and a half) is fluctuating: in the first half not much happens, while in the second part the situation is considerably complicated, forcing the player to perform a couple of decidedly meaningful choices. At this juncture the pathos grows, thanks also to a more inspired soundtrack than usual.
A starting point for the future
In terms of gameplay, Jailhouse Block does not differ much from what we saw from Hero in Residence onwards, offering the usual alternation between QTE, crafting, puzzles, fights and multiple choice dialogues (some quite important, as mentioned above). The possibility of constructing a construction also returns, even if in this case it is very an end in itself. The only relevant addition is a real one boss battle, the first in the series. It is not particularly exciting, based on a simple battle system, although enriched compared to that of the first season of Minecraft: Story Mode, but it can give us hope for an epic final battle at the conclusion of the fifth episode.
Minecraft: Story Mode - Season Two - Episode Three: Jailhouse Block is not the perfect episode, but it is undeniable that it is getting to the heart of the story. Of course, it is a bit short and does not proceed at a brisk pace, but it manages to create hype in view of the next episode, thanks also to some heavy choices. We hope that the promises are kept.
