Review for MLB The Show 18. Game for PlayStation 4, the video game was released on 27/03/2018
Sometimes you don't need VR to identify with a title: there are video games that manage to immerse you in the action, which give you the feeling of being in the middle of the scene or, as in this case, in the middle of a green diamond. You can hear the scent of grass, the hiss of the ball being thrown, the sound of the club rejecting it, the bounce on the court, the grasp of a glove and the chorus of fans. Sony San Diego Studio he got us used to this, he improved a product that was already excellent by himself, continuing that process of growth towards achieving the desired photo realism.
The title, exclusive to Sony, once again manages to surprise for the detail and the amount of content.
A constant growth, which translates into what is the best career mode ever for the title, the so-called Road To The Show: perhaps the best videogame experience in terms of progression and growth along with NBA 2K. The great work of the software house is understood immediately, once you have reached the creation of the character e in front of its profound editor. Creating your own virtual alter ego is satisfying, there are many possible aesthetic, physical and accessory variations that we can choose but not only, because even the choice of the role has become much more detailed. A pitcher, as much as a hitter, can choose between several different technical styles. The choice obviously refers to the position we are going to occupy on the pitch, a pitcher will hardly be given the opportunity to hit the decisive ball, but rather a hitter to throw in the last inning of a challenge. However, the chosen position will not be final. If you start out as a first innings pitcher, you can ask your coach to move you to the closing pitcher. However, the decision will always be up to your coach.
Once the virtual alter ego is created, the real climb to the World Series will begin. You will start with a simple workout under the watchful eye of MLB scouts, then work your way up to a series of friendlies among potential stars. The goal is to receive a Draft call. A call that, should it arrive immediately, you can accept or decline, choosing to stay another season in college to improve your skills and get a better position in the ranking. Once the contract is signed, you will be placed in one of the Minor League teams affiliated with the Major, the first step to obtaining a contract in the first team. From that moment you can start thinking about reaching the World Series. However, a series of subdued performances will be enough to be relegated to the Minor League again or to be drafted to another team.
The performance on the field will make you grow, increase your skills and get bonuses: in fact, instead of gaining experience, your performance on the field will be reflected in the progression of your alter ego. The numerous training possibilities will allow you to further improve both your skills and the maximum potential you can reach. You will therefore have to balance the characteristics of your character to get the best performance on the field. The continuous progression of the story is told as if it were a documentary, with a voiceover describing the most important actions and decisions made by your digital alter ego, from the answers to the coaches as well as the conversations with your agent.
It would be superfluous to talk about all the other modes, after all, as in every sportsman, apart from some new feature or graphic renewal of the game menus, the software house has followed what it had already done in the other editions, so we advise you to read the review of the last edition.
If the career mode is the most complete ever, an honorable mention goes to graphic majesty of the video game. The polygonal models of the players are to say the least perfect, the stadiums made impeccably: on a graphic level we are talking about perhaps the best sportsman on the gaming market. The established gameplay, suitable for both experts and newbies, manages to give that extra touch of realism to the game.
Both in the launch of the ball, in the serve or in the passage from one base to another, we will have three different types of controls, one more arcade, one intermediate and one more simulative. We move from using only the main keys, but rather using the analog sticks. Both graphically and in terms of gameplay, we are talking about a video game that, despite its beauty and technique, always manages to improve itself edition after edition.
MLB The Show 18 presents itself as the best baseball video game ever made. With its consolidated gameplay, graphics that border on photo realism and a career mode developed down to the smallest detail, it is natural to call it the best title in the series.
