La Rare Replay is a Collection that lands on the Microsoft home console, Xbox One. The guys from the English software house have done an excellent job, serving the many video game enthusiasts a rich package consisting of the great classics that have made the brand known. In fact, it will be possible to find within it games of the caliber of Banjo-Kazooie, Perfect Dark, Conker and many more. In recent years, Rare has had to put aside its best-known sagas to devote itself to developing games on Xbox, exactly for the Kinect peripheral, and obviously fans have not taken this well. On the occasion of the last E3 2015 they presented, in addition to the Rare Replay, their new project Sea of Thieves a title strongly centered on the online pirate background, but of which we know very little at the moment.
Let the curtain open
Once the game disc is inserted in your Xbox One, we will be catapulted into a beautiful and extravagant introductory movie which, as it was made, is already worth the purchase price of the ticket alone, to which a celebratory song is framed making it all look like something out of a theatrical musical. We start immediately with Jetpac, a title released for ZX Spectrum and the first title of the English software house: it looks like a normal horizontal scrolling shooter, we will play an astronaut, named Jatman, and our aim will be to help him in the enterprise to build a rocket to escape to multiple planets. Always continuing with the titles of the ZX Spectrum era there will be: Atic Atac, Saber Wulf, Knight Lore or Gun Fight. All of these are based on the same graphics engine with an isometric view: saying that today they can have a certain effect on the gamer is a bit difficult unfortunately but, of course, they were quite innovative at the time.
The roundup of titles continues with the era of NES titles: starting with Slalom, an ASCII-based title that was Rare's first debut on Nintendo hardware, then there is Snake Rattle 'n' Roll or RC Pro-Am, quest 'last a driving game in which there are small radio-controlled cars to run, and it is still very fun to play today. There is the original Battletoads released for NES and also the Arcade version that came out after the latter in 1994. One better than the other, especially the second, two rather difficult scrolling fighting games where the key word is: "take a punches everyone in the face! ”.
We then continue with the games for Nintendo 64: Perfect Dark a truly excellent shooter; Blast Corps a demolition game; Jet Force Gemini and two milestones like Banjo & Kazooie and Conker's Bad Fur Day, a 3D platformer whose protagonist, a cute little squirrel, gets drunk, swears and is obsessed with sex. The title at the time, due to its being "vulgar", was heavily censored but here the original version is proposed, thus being able to enjoy the most beautiful quotes present. The series of games ends with the section dedicated to Xbox games: Grabbed by the Ghoulies, Perfect Dark Zero, Kameo, Viva Pinata and Banjo & Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts. Unfortunately some games are missing from the collection, because Nintendo owns their property, and we are talking about: Donkey Kong Country for NES, Goldeneye 007 for N64 and many games released for Game Boy. Surely one of the strengths of this collection is undoubtedly the longevity placed in the titles, given that to complete them it will take just over a hundred hours, such as Viva Pinata which is practically infinite.
No ticket, no party
For lovers of lenses the Rare Replay she is a goose that lays golden eggs. As we finish one game and start another, there will be an experience level that will rise and will allow us to have access to a section called “Rare Revealed“. What is "Rare Revealed"? It is a section that gives the player the opportunity to show the background of the English software house regarding the creation of games in the form of a documentary. It will therefore also be possible to find out more information about them and about the titles designed to be developed but then later canceled. Unlocking this content will not be a walk in the park, it will require time and skill on the part of the gamer. The games offered are exactly the ones that came out at the time: no remakes, or anything like that. There Rare Replay offers you the original versions, with the technical sector of the past and the presence of two side bands in case you find yourself playing a game in 4: 3. The entire collection weighs dozens and dozens of gigs, so be ready for really consistent downloads: between games and extras. All games released on Xbox 360 will have to be downloaded separately and will have the achievement list also separate: the total G points to unlock are 10.000.
[signoff predefined = ”Signoff 1 ″ icon =” quote-circled ”] The Rare Replay is the representation of a tribute to one of the most important software houses and it is an opportunity that must be seized immediately. The care and realization of this series comprising thirty titles has been meticulously and flawlessly. Each player will have the opportunity to choose many different genres between them, such as from shooters to management, from fighting games to platformers. This nostalgic operation has on its side the price and the amount of content to what is balanced, only 30 €, a rather excellent figure for the reserved package. Obviously, for those who have never been able to put their paws on a ZX Spectrum this could be an excellent opportunity, although we are aware that some games may leave the time they find. [/ Signoff]
