Review for Ride 3. Game for PC, PlayStation 4, Steam and Xbox One, the video game was released on 30/11/2018
Ride 3, let's face it right away, it is the ideal title for those who understand a lot about motorcycles and motorcycling but also for those who have always experienced it as a spectator, amateur or simply wannabe. The Italian Milestone, with this Ride 3 definitely hit the mark.
Ride 3 is, if it may be fair to call it, a huge and hilarious motorcycle-themed sandbox. All our more or less budding centaur impulses can find satisfaction in this immense game.
Let's start, just to please, with the immense fleet of motorcycles at our disposal. In Ride 3, in fact, we will be able to put our greasy hands on as many as 230 and more motorcycle models, divided in turn into 7 different categories for a total of the beauty of 26 different manufacturers. All, of course, under full license.
In this way we will have the opportunity to enjoy many, if not all, the types of motorcycles that can come to mind. Starting from the pure street models to the more “café racer” ones, passing through the Motard and so on. One of the most fitting video comparisons for this Ride 3 is the one with the series Gran Turismo, where the desire for completeness and collecting could also take over the competition and competitive championships. Pure desire for speed as an end in itself.
Ride 3 introduces itself to the player in an extremely friendly way, taking him by the hand in a first race, in Laguna Seca, where he can become familiar with the driving system and, later, introducing him to his loft, that is the gaming hub, from where you can make all the important decisions regarding your career, review the bikes that we have bought and conquered in the meantime, customize your character for all occasions, also here mainly with rigorously licensed accessories and equipment, therefore with a very high index of immersion and likelihood.
In short, Ride 3 will make you feel really cool motorcycles equipped, dedicated to a simple and massive life on the road. A real dream for many of us. In Ride 3, in fact, the best thing will be to collect and customize your motorcycles, a little in spite of the simple "Career" mode that the game offers us. Mind you, the most classic game mode (for this type of titles) is absolutely not to be thrown away, but for sure the sandbox part will be the one that will attract most both the enthusiast and connoisseur, and the intrigued neophyte.
On the gameplay side, Ride 3 is a really great product. The playability is high, very high, also thanks to the numerous levels of difficulty and settings that we can freely set, in order to be able to enjoy a more committed and simulative experience as well as a more relaxed, casual and adrenaline-pumping game model, in pure arcade style as it was Gravel, also by Milestone. In a game of this type, one of the characteristics that delimit the success of the title is certainly that of the management of in-game physics. In Ride 3 this feature is excellent, almost perfect, except for some sporadic and funny collision effects with obstacles (and subsequent motorcycles that seem to take off, not even full of helium or with occasional interpenetration of pilots and elements of the scenario worthy of The Thing ) and a minimum of confusion when facing a real fight to recover positions.
In principle, everything goes more than smooth, but sometimes you can find yourself in some situation bordering on ridicule, always due to a bug on collisions. Nothing transcendental, however, it should be said, but certainly some details that should be improved, thanks to which the gaming experience would benefit enormously. As already mentioned, especially in the most excited and crowded overtaking actions, the AI of the opponents may not always shine with intuition and practice. In short, sometimes your opponents will ring chapels after chapels in the big scrum. Fortunately, not very often, it must be said.
Graphically and technically in general, Ride 3 has no major flaws to report. The action always flows smoothly, without frame rate drops or blurring of any kind, even when playing on a simple one PlayStation 4 Slim, no frills of the case. Overall, the Unreal Engine 4 works, and great too!
Ride 3 is the classic gift title for all motorcycling enthusiasts. Well structured and balanced, precise, huge… A real playground that, not trivial, is detached from the simple exaltation of the career mode, focusing instead on the passion for motorcycling at 360 degrees. Without ifs and buts. 100% recommended, thanks also to immediate but immersive playability.
