Video games have broken down barriers. Let's take VR technology for example: through special devices (HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and PlayStation VR) it is possible to overcome the distance dictated by the screen or monitor, leading the player to be the protagonist in the first person in a game. But the interesting experiments certainly don't end there. Among the latest innovations involving the PlayStation 4 universe, we mention the program undertaken by Sony under the name of PlayLink.
An initiative presented during E3 2017, which aims to bring party games on consoles to a higher level, avoiding the use of the traditional joystick, as it is replaced by mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets.
Among the first the upcoming games belonging to the PlayLink series we find Tell me who you are!, available on PlayStation Store or in retail version at a price of around 20 euros; on the contrary, it will be free for PlayStation Plus subscribers.
This is a smart move aimed at favoring the arrival in the market of a title that the classic Sony audience is not used to. It's easy to approach party games with the casual gamer figure, and indeed Tell me who you are! it's an experiment which is not aimed at hardcore gamers, but at those who want to use the console to live a light experience, within everyone's reach and especially in the company of friends and family.
For correct operation, Tell me who you are! requires the download of the app of the same name, available for both Android and iOS in the appropriate stores. As soon as you have downloaded the application, just start the game, connect your smartphone or tablet to the WiFi connection to which the PlayStation 4 is connected, and it will be possible to create the player profile by choosing a card, a nice selfie and of the name.
After all the players present have carried out these first steps, explained in a simple and immediate way through info on the app, it will be possible to start the game. It consists of a series of questions and mini-games that will test the level of friendship or knowledge between the various participants: Questions will be asked - such as "Who would be the most irritably lively in the morning?" - which will involve those present. Each of them will have to secretly select the avatar of a specific participant, if they think it is the most "irritably lively". Once the players have provided their answer, whoever has selected the highest rated friend at the end of the question will take points, which can be doubled if one of the available jokers is used.
In addition to the questions, there will be some curious games, such as photographing one of the participants, and drawing on it - through a convenient editor included in the app - the required details. For example, “Draw Lorena as if she were going to the prom,” and the friend who draws the most beautiful or sympathetic drawing, according to the majority, will win the points up for grabs. At the end of each round, whoever gets the highest score will be the champion of the match.
Tell me who you are! is a game that requires three to a maximum of six players to be fully enjoyed. In reality it is also possible to play in two, always through the formula of the questions and the drawing. In the first case, however, there will be two answers available and the combined score. It is clear that in two the game loses longevity and enjoyment, so in the case of the lack of participants, it will be possible to play online. However what makes Tell Me Who You Are! fun is the comparison with your friends and family, which, thanks to the degree of harmony and confidence, can generate laughter and pleasant moments. Therefore, limiting the experience to online mode with strangers or to two players makes the title lose a lot.
Since longevity was mentioned earlier, the games in Tell Me Who Are You! are smooth and varied, also favored byhigh number of questions (more than 1000). If this is not enough, know that there is the possibility to create your own questions, raising the level of intimacy or, why not, the audacity of the participants. All this goes for the first few sessions, because in the long run the game could get boring, especially if played with the same people.
When we used to say that Tell me Who You Are! it is aimed at a wide audience, without any distinction, it is because it has immediate mechanics, usable by everyone (who doesn't use a smartphone nowadays?) but not only. The product is also pleasant for non-professionals (casual gamers) thanks to a youthful, colorful and stylish style. The oneiric but rhythmic choirs of the very English Temples, the clear and simple tutorial voice, the graphical interface, the app itself: every element, from the visual to the musical one, plays in favor of immersion and lightheartedness.
It is appropriate to say: Tell me who you are! it's a game for everyone. It manages to take the mechanics and style of traditional board games and transposes them into a videogame key. A successful experiment, because it allows you to spend moments of pleasant company with friends of a lifetime or closest relatives. There is no restriction, because playing is simple: just a smartphone and the desire to have a good time with the people closest to us. In fact, when the level of confidence among the participants is high, laughter is guaranteed. On the contrary, despite the possibility of playing online or even with two players, the title loses much of its potential. Tell me who you are! it will not be the super game that will revolutionize videogame mechanics, but it remains an interesting initiative, capable of giving new life to party games on PlayStation 4, and above all it is able to attract any person (not just gamer) ready to spend a few hours among the warm laughter of friends.
