Orochi Warriors 4 is, at least so far, the definitive Musou offered by Koei Tecmo, a development team more experienced in this genre than ever.
With Warriors Orochi 4 we could take control of as many as 170 warriors from the major mass combat sagas with an oriental setting, series that have made the history of the genre such as Samurai Warriors e Dynasty Warriors.
In Warriors Orochi 4 we will find, and we will be able to use in the clashes, in fact, a careful selection of the best characters of both sagas plus some juicy additions.
Yes, because the main plot of the game sees Japanese heroes of the Sengoku era (the age of states at war), being drawn into a curious alternative world, along with the pillars of the Chinese sagas of the Three Kingdoms age. To complete the whole, there will also be the Olympic gods (but not only) who will act as a kind, and here it is really the case to say it, of Deus Ex Machina.
The story that allows warriors of different eras to cheerfully slaughter each other on a "neutral" battlefield (which you will then see that it is not so neutral), revolves around mysterious and powerful bracelets made in the shape of a snake and of divine origin. These artifacts, in addition to conferring immeasurable power to those lucky enough to possess one, also allow us to open space-time gaps between the various eras, thus catapulting entire armies into this new dimension, where in theory the Olympians and their colleagues would reign.
Too bad that the evil and powerful has also fallen into this mysterious dimension Oda Nobunaga, whose ambition to conquer certainly does not stop for a trifle like an interdimensional leap. Also in possession of one of the bracelets of power, Nobunaga sets out to conquer these new territories, putting even the legitimate hosts to the test. Fortunately, many of the forces of the "good ones" also end up in the passage, thus being able to continue to put a spoke in the wheels of the evil Oda and his new unscrupulous allies.
Hence, a great crossover between the most successful Koei Tecmo series. The main game structure is the classic, very classic one, of the musou genre, where we control a limited party of heroes in a series of rather linear missions, almost always concerning the elimination of opposing officers and / or particular bosses, the defense of specific objectives. or the attack and conquest of similar objectives, but waving an opposing flag.
Contrary to what we have seen with Dynasty Warriors 9, the game abandons the open world-like structure in favor of much simpler missions and phone calls, always in the now unmistakable style of this type of games. Which means we won't even have to deal with world exploration and intensive collection of materials to improve our equipment. Of course, there will also be a crafting component associated with grinding sections in Warriors Orochi 4, but everything has been inserted into the gameplay in a harmonious way, as well as the system, semi-role, of growth of the various (countless) characters.
Speaking of characters and party composition, each of them has, in addition to specific warlike skills, also a real "soul" with which they will relate with their companions in interpersonal s that will also be taken care of by the player. Doing so will raise the degree of affinity and therefore the coefficient of incisiveness in battle.
Technically, Warriors Orochi 4 is clearly superior to its others recently released. Graphics (mostly), sound and animations are truly the best around for the genre. While unable to compete with the graphics of other genres, that of Warriors Orochi 4 does its dirty duty without hitting a shot and without slowing down.
Playability is ensured, given the simple but still quite varied controls and the many types of attack, which can be activated thanks to the key combos.
Overall Warriors Orochi 4 looks like the best of its kind. The quantity and variety of playable characters gives it an extra boost compared to other titles, as does the technical accuracy, the best so far. Alla Lunga could also be a bit repetitive, but it remains the top of the genre, indispensable for any fan of the genre and of mass clashes.
