Let's face it clearly: if you want to take advantage of a course title focused on the forced disintegration of vehicles and only marginally of a driving game that allows you (also) to compete for first position and record time, then Wreckfest is the game for you. Maybe.
Ignorance of the game concept immediately leads back to the devastating mechanics of Destruction Derby, however it is necessary to hold your nose and turn a blind eye to some flaws related to the console versions, published after more than a year compared to the PC counterpart, in order to fully enjoy of the arrogant playful abundance offered by Wreckfest.
Tested on Xbox One X, Wreckfest in fact manifests its technical uncertainties right from the game menus, in the context of which it is possible to recognize small graphic glitches and a gross so and so organization. Divided into three different macro sections, the title distributed by THQ Nordic allows you to take part in the course competitions declined for single player and multiplayer, to access a hub in which to enhance the vehicle, both from the level of performance and structurally, concluding with the possibility of setting some options such as audiovisual settings and controls as you see fit.
I hit the track, the show certainly does not reach what was seen on PC, somehow explaining the troubled development on consoles that the project as a whole has undergone over time: the action, reproduced at constant thirty frames per second, proposes poorly defined textures and somewhat consistent aliasing. The elements that counterbalance the lack of brilliance of the coatings proposed by the game's graphics engine must certainly be found in the large number of destructible elements shown on the screen, as well as in the large number of opponents present on the rough racing terrain of this mangling work.
The reproduction of the physical laws that regulate the playful dynamics of Wreckfest, on the other hand, are confirmed to be excellent, significantly impacting the gameplay of the work encoded by Bugbear Entertainment and sublimating an immediate revival of the feeling found with the previous binary works of the Finnish team such as, for example, FlatOut. Let the pent-up anger against the CPU be vented, rather with other frustrated gamers around the globe, Wreckfest always offers abundant doses of fun.
Are your synapses projected towards the total annihilation of each opponent, without thinking about the damage and the consequent bill of the coachbuilder? Arena-type competitions are definitely the ones for you! Do you want to cross the finish line first, not disdaining to resort to hard ways to pursue this result? The Wreckfest tracks, in this case, will soon become your best friends. Summarizing it all, in short, while not making a miracle cry, what this racing game offers will keep even the most hungry of users busy for many, many hours.
And if it is true that the proverbial touch at the rear at the corner entry actually suggests exclamations that are decidedly alien to contexts such as the Zecchino d'Oro and similar shows, it is equally inevitable to report how the opponents governed by AI are confirmed, in some cases, quite cheap in terms of perpetuated misconduct. In fact, it often happens that the much-hated rivals are back on their heels, despite not having made particularly important mistakes.
A factor that, although it increases the gross challenge offered by Wreckfest, on the other hand it almost feeds in the user a sense of helplessness in the face of the peremptory recovery of one's opponents, who will have no hesitation in interpenetrating their own sheets with yours, often sending you off the track, forcing you to place a little honorable at the cut of the finish line. As there is no rewind mechanism, these slightly unbalanced recovery algorithms are quite disturbing.
Wreckfest has finally arrived on consoles. If on the one hand it is possible to recognize some flaws in the technical implementation that highlight all the difficulties encountered by Bugbear Entertainment during the troubled porting of the title from PC to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, on the other hand we cannot but underline the magnificence of the engine. physical and all the fun that the production is able to unconditionally donate to any type of gamer looking for a work that, after only a few minutes, is able to wrap completely with its own gameplay, disenchanted but equally demanding and full of challenge.
