In a new interview Tim Stuart, Microsoft's Xbox Chief Financial Officer, said that the intent of the Bethesda acquisition is not to take away content from Sony and Nintendo.
The CFO's words sound decidedly reassuring for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch users, which will then be able to play the same Bethesda titles, despite the acquisition by Xbox.
"What we will do in the long term has nothing to do with the intention to simply take content from Sony and Nintendo," Stuart said in the course of an interview published by VGC, “What we want is that this content arrives earlier, or is better through a differentiated experience, on our platforms”.
We are therefore talking about temporary exclusives, as it was for Rise of the Tomb Raider, or small improvements dedicated to the console. “We want Bethesda content to be best enjoyed on our platforms,” he added. Stating that the strategy will focus above all on boost of Xbox Game Pass, as Bethesda games like The Elder Scrolls 6 and Starfield are set to be available from day one on the Microsoft service.
We just have to wait for the first Bethesda releases to see the Microsoft and Xbox strategy in place, and then evaluate the effects on the various companies.
