Reaching the Borderlands 3 ending may not satisfy players who are always looking for new challenges; for this reason Gearbox Software has introduced the Proving Grounds, a mode aimed at the Borderlands 3 endgame. The proving grounds are dungeons consisting of three stages full of enemies to face and with a boss to be eliminated at the end. The challenge is given by the presence of numerous secondary objectives such as never dying, finishing the fight within a certain time limit and many others. The greater the challenge, the better the loot obtained in the end.
Once the story of Borderlands 3 is complete, it is possible to find secret signals in the various maps, necessary to unlock the Proving Grounds. Each signal found corresponds to a trial to be unlocked, which will later be reachable from Sanctuary. At the moment there are 6, a number that will increase with the release of DLC. The first of these, the trial of Cunning, is on Pandora: to activate it you have to go to the Splinterlands and position yourself in the center of the map; here you will find the signal, highlighted by a yellow exclamation point, with which to interact to start the mission related to the test. Once a short mission has been completed, it will be possible to face the test in its entirety.
The same procedure is necessary for the other 5 challenges: you have to interact with the signal, follow the directions of the mission and finally try your hand at the challenge. Here is the location of the other signals:
- Trial of Survival - Also found on Pandora, at the westernmost point of Devil's Razor.
- Trial of Fervor - In the Jakobs Estate on Eden-6, in the easternmost point of the map, specifically this is the upper right corner. From this position you can reach a non-scalable north wall, but you can walk around it to reach the cave that contains the signal.
- Trial of Instinct - On Eden 6, in the Floodmoor Basin, there is a gigantic tree: the signal is located between its roots.
- Trial of Discipline - In the Meridian Outskirts on Promethea just go to the northeastern part of the map, where the signal is inside a niche.
- Trial of Supremacy - On Nekrotafeyo, in the northern part of Desolation's Edge, is the last pedestal that activates the trial; as always indicated by a yellow exclamation point.
