It has been almost a year and a half since Nintendo announced with a trailer the development of the sequel to its greatest masterpiece of recent years: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
The highly coveted project still remains shrouded in mystery, but famous analyst Michael Pachter has already made his sales forecasts.
Given that Breath of the Wild's sales to date are around 20 million copies, for Pachter the sequel could sell up to 40 million.
I think the sequel will sell more than the first chapter. The installed base of Switch will be greater and Zelda, along with Mario Kart and Smash Bros. are the titles that all owners of Nintendo consoles buy.
How many Switches will have been sold at the time of the release of the next Zelda, 75 million? The title will therefore have no problem selling 25 million copies, copies that will probably reach 35 million if not 40
Pachter's reasoning seems to make more than sense. Of course, the quality level of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 should be at least on par with that of the first game, but it would be crazy to question the talent of the Nintendo teams.
Pachter then closed with a further consideration on the fact that, apart from re-editions and Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, Nintendo hasn't released a new Mario Kart chapter since 2014:
Before they release the game they want to have a gigantic installed base to break any sales records
