Strange rumors about Cyberpunk 2077 begin to circulate: after the media explosion due to the poor performance of old gen, new probable details arise behind the development of the game. CD Projekt RED has already announced its plans for the next few months regarding post-launch support. Two big patches will come out in the next two months that should correct the shot a lot, in order to make the title enjoyable also on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. However, it seems that the climate in CDPR is not the best. One of the developers of Cyberpunk 2077 seems to have made known the current situation and the sad choices in development, by writing anonymously on an online topic.
It looks like there will be major departures from CDPR in the coming months, so there will be no major roles on which much of the blame for the disastrous launch falls. The morale of the developers is therefore not the best, together with that of Sony, tired of the massive request for refunds regarding the title. It seems that there was also a meeting between CDPR and Sony to try to resolve this situation. Within CDPR, the "faults" are falling on the managers and senior developers who are thus trying to shield their employees. The problems, however, seem to derive from unfortunate moves by those who are even higher: According to the anonymous developer, there is a quest that has been rewritten over and over again, wasting development time because it didn't seem convincing to one of the top managers. This then would have even been canceled and then included in one of the upcoming DLCs. Also according to this source, there are elements that were assumed in CD Project RED only for sympathy and not for their real skills, making the process slow and cumbersome: it seems that much of the code has been rewritten from scratch during development, as still today is happening. According to the source's vision, the title will be "complete" by June. Much of the work has been done but is not yet implementable due to a bug on the user interface.
The developer would then invite those who are thinking of a refund to request it absolutely, as it would benefit the developers who had already warned the managing in unsuspecting times, about the status of the title, not yet ready to go out. The code related to the old gen seems to be rewritten, while for that of the PlayStation 5 it would only be changes, as Sony's dev kits would have helped a lot. The developer then added that a lot of content would have been cut, just to make it possible for players to finish the main quest without too many problems: it seems that more than 50000 lines of dialogue have been cut and many previously lootable locations closed. Apparently the entire Night City underground, a myriad of underground locations similar to those of Bloodlines, would have been cut just because the management didn't like them. All this material should be available again with the June update. Johnny Silverhand also seems to have been rewritten and, in its first incarnation, it seems to have been darker and cooler, inspired by a mix between Solid Snake and the characters played by Cillian Murphy.
The cuts would also have been made in function of internal censorship: according to the source, there should have been AI routines that managed baby gangs committing crimes on the street and using drugs, priests preaching on the street and Hare Krishna running around the alleys. . In all this, the disastrous launch of Cyberpunk 2077 seems to have benefited the developers in order to set priorities correctly, without having top managers on their necks. According to the source, the problems arose due to poor communication and poorly placed goals. Before E3 2019 the title was still in conditions not ready for a first test and the situation was already heavy. Precisely for this reason, if there is no resignation in a relatively short time, CDPR could intervene legally. The alleged developer then mentions much more material that should be modified / added between now and the end of the year, such as two story arcs, locations, types of taxis and missions. If these rumors are confirmed to be true, it was certainly the developers and, of course, the players who lost in the first place, who will not see the true face of Cyberpunk 2077 until the end of 2021.
