    Strategy and useful advice

The boss fight, at first glance, seems somewhat complicated because it will see you face a duo of large stone monsters armed with axes and capable of breathing fire. However, they will not be paired from the start, but the latter will appear once you take away the first half of its life total. First of all it is good to always remember that the battle takes place on the roof of the Church of the Undead, so it is good to keep away from the edges of the "battlefield", otherwise you risk falling down.

At the beginning of the battle we strongly advise you to attack the tail of the monster, in order to cut it and thus obtain the Ax of the Gargoyle and make it harmless (one of its attacks is in fact the "Tail"). Tail docking is easy if the monster is breathing fire, because at that moment it will be stationary and ready to take all your hits.

Once you get the first Gargoyle to mid-life, a second will appear, but it will have 50% life total. Be careful to attack one at a time (until it is eliminated) and to do so only when you are safe (for example when the other is breathing fire). Once the first has been eliminated, the game is done: concentrate on the other, always being careful not to fall off the roof.

The two Gargloyles are extremely vulnerable to electricity (golden resins and miracles) and slightly to fire. If you want help, you can summon Solaire (whose sun spears inflict massive damage on the Gargoyles) if you've talked to him earlier, or Lautrec if you've freed him from his cell and then talked to him at the Firebound Shrine.

    Attacks

    • Horizontal ax strike - horizontal and quick ax strike, parable but it is advisable to move away as the complete combo will drain your stamina
    • Vertical Ax Strike - slow and very powerful vertical strike, not parable: therefore we recommend that you roll to the side and go behind the monster to try to cut off its tail (if you have not yet done so) or hit it to harm it
    • Air Attack - the Gargoyle takes off and lands, causing a lot of damage and risking to knock you down: as soon as you see it flying, start running and then roll when it is about to land
    • Codata - attack not particularly harmful but wide-ranging (if you have cut off its tail it cannot do it)
    • Breath of Fire - attack used when trying to hide or in the presence of the second Gargoyle; once you have learned to understand when it is about to blow, more than a danger it will be an opportunity to hit the boss (but be careful when they are in pairs, because usually one breathes fire and the other tries to hit you with an ax or 'air attack)

    Drop

    • 10,000 anime
    • a twin Humanity
    • Gargoyle Ax (if you cut off his tail but if you haven't had a chance to do so, rest assured, you will meet other Gargoyles in Anor Londo)
    • Gargoyle Shield (rare drop)
    • Gargoyle Helm (very rare drop)
    • Gargoyle Halberd (rare drop)

The lore of these bosses is quite shrouded in mystery. It is known, for example, that these creatures are chosen as guardians to protect the secret of the gods (we will also find them in Anor Londo as ordinary monsters, in fact), but their genesis is somewhat nebulous. Furthermore, the Gargoyles also represent a very demanding boss fight, at least as regards the initial phases of the game. But who will have placed them just to protect the first Awakening Bell?
