Final Fantasy VII Remake - Guide to Blue Matter

Materia is an extremely important mechanic in Final Fantasy VII Remake, just as they were in the original game. They are able to help you consistently in every battle, as they are useful for obtaining various passive and non-passive bonuses; it goes from the simplest stat enhancement to the use of spells and summons.

In order to equip them, after obtaining them, you must necessarily have free slots in your weapons or armor; to unlock additional slots you will then have to improve the different pieces of your equipment using your Skill Points (AP). Furthermore for some Materia it is possible to create extremely powerful combos in case one of your pieces of equipment has “linked slots”. In Final Fantasy VII Remake, in most cases, you can get these combos by combining any type of Materia with a support one.

It is important first of all to keep in mind that the effects of these Materia are not cumulative, except in some special cases (especially for those of Purple color), so the only way to get the most powerful effects is to level them up. These powerful items are indeed capable of leveling up (the maximum of which varies between each Materia) by gaining experience in battle, just like in the case of our protagonists of Final Fantasy VII Remake.

Before explaining where to find each Materia in Final Fantasy VII Remake we must dwell on classifying them. These powerful objects are in fact divided into five categories, each of which is represented by a specific color. The breakdown is as follows:

    • Blue Matter (Support): add passive effects in certain circumstances and must necessarily be combined with Materia of other types to create combos.
    • Verdi Matter (Magic): useful for using different types of offensive spells and more.
    • Purple Matter (Independent): they provide active and passive skills of various kinds.
    • Yellow Matter (Techniques): replace or add new skills to use in battle with new commands.
    • Red Matter (Summon): essential for summoning powerful creatures capable of turning the tide of battle.
