During the third day of TGS, Square Enix brought Yoshinori Kitase up on stage to show Final Fantasy VII Remake again; the producer, with pad in hand, showed the sequences set in the Mako reactor. This is the same demo shown previously, used to explain the introduction of classic mode within the title. The use of this mode makes the basic attacks of the characters automatic, with which they will charge the ATB bar: once full it will be possible to consume it to use a spell or a skill. The same is true for limit breaks. A chance to make the remake experience closer to the original work.
A new boss fight was shown below, the one with Aps, Don Corneo's monstrous animal. The gameplay related to this battle gave Kitase the opportunity to further deepen the combat system of Final Fantasy VII Remake. The first part of the battle focuses on the attacks and skills of Aerith and Tifa, who are finally seen in action in a more substantial way; the whole boss fight is very dynamic, with Aps jumping from wall to wall of the sewers to carry out its devastating charges.
Halfway through the fight, the monster becomes furious, entering a mode similar to Monster Hunter's enrage: the boss's horns and eyes light up, making him even more aggressive and dangerous. On this occasion, Ifrit is summoned to counter the second phase of Aps. Kitase explained that summons will not always be available but are in particular situations: facing particularly difficult enemies, the summon materia will enter a sort of resonance, signaling the possibility of being used. The summons fight alongside the player for a time delimited by a dedicated bar; Although they attack automatically, they can use specific abilities by consuming the summoner's ATB gauge. When the bar is depleted, the summons make their signature move before leaving the battlefield.
We are dealing with a much more complex and spectacular boss fight than in Final Fantasy VII. The gameplay shows itself more and more spectacular, capable of keeping expectations sky high.
Will the production be able to have such high quality until the end? We hope so, so that Square Enix is back in the limelight as Capcom has done in recent years.
