Two years have passed since the launch of Ghost Recon: Wildlands, Ubisoft has decided to focus again on the franchise by offering the public the new chapter Ghost Recon: Breakpoint. With this new chapter Ubisoft wanted to take back the good things created with Wildlands but improving narrative, gameplay, cooperation and technical sector.
In Breakpoint we will play the role of a soldier (Nomad) sent to the Isle of Aurora on a reconnaissance mission, when suddenly his helicopter is shot down. Having survived the accident, we find ourselves in the middle of the island's forests, wounded and with the presence of the Wolves, a former military unit trained to kill and led by Cole D. Walker, an old acquaintance of our protagonist. Our task is to find out what is happening on the island and the technologies of the Skell Technology, all together with other companions that we will meet on the island and who can be led by real players.
One of the most interesting news of Ghost Recon: Breakpoint is certainly its "survival" component, in fact any damage we will suffer from enemies will tend to hurt us more or less severely, and this will lead to difficulties in aiming, running and often will also preclude us from firing heavy weapons. This type of damage will be divided into three levels of severity, each of which can be treated with the necessary tools directly on site or at a camp. Added to this is the introduction of the bunting, which will decrease every time you perform tiring actions such as running or when you carry objects that are too heavy, which in addition to decreasing the stamina itself will create a new animation in the movements of the protagonist who will be visibly tested by this tiring action.
Breakpoint, as already mentioned, it can be played completely alone or with three other friends, either way it will be though constant internet connection mandatory, as already seen in The Division 2. Like any self-respecting Ghost Recon, also in this new chapter the coordination in the actions will be fundamental, in fact every single stealth action must be reasoned and nothing must be left to chance. In the gameplay shown by Ubisoft you can in fact see the division of the tasks of the three Ghosts, one of which takes care of spotting the enemies with the drone while the other companions reach the position and then attack the enemy.
The great stealth footprint of the title can also be seen from the new additions for this chapter such as stealth kills that can also be done while lying down or the possibility of hiding in the mud. The latter can be useful when we see enemies in the area and we have no other areas to hide, while in all other situations we can opt for many other ways, always paying attention not to be identified and not to make noise. As explained by Ubisoft in fact, the new enemy AI is significantly improved, who at the slightest noise will tend to organize research patrols throughout the area without giving up too easily, forcing us to be very careful during our attacks.
Obviously pad in hand each player can use the methods they prefer to complete the missions and for this Ubisoft has announced that at launch it will already be possible choose between four different classes, which will be expanded over the months. They are already on the schedule major expansions that will be released every four months which will also include for the first time i Raid, the first of which will be available a few months after the game's launch. At launch it will also be a PVP mode is available which will surround the whole experience and will share progress with all other modes, so as to have weapons, skills and customizations available on all modes without having to start over each time.
The last aspect we want to deal with is the technical sector, which compared to Wildlands seems to have improved but without actually upsetting the graphics engine itself. However, we did notice some great animations, lighting effects and texture quality, all features that will surely enhance the work of Ubisoft, obviously in the hope that there will not be a graphic downgrade as already seen in other titles. From the gameplay video of about 13 minutes we were also able to analyze the audio sector which, although limited by the compression quality of Youtube, seemed very engaging, especially for the Nomad dubbing, definitely in line with Ubisoft productions.
The announcement of Ghost Recon: Breakpoint will make the fans of the saga happy, who after just two years are in their hands a new chapter that promises to be very interesting. A strong narrative imprint and a completely different way of playing for the saga, thanks to the introduction of stamina and wounds, make this new chapter certainly attractive to our eyes, even if we wait to try at least the Beta to give a more complete judgment. The Aurora archipelago is certainly a setting that already seemed fascinating to us from these first videos, both for the diversification of the vegetation and for the many possibilities of action such as hiding in the mud or behind a tree, all features that enrich a gameplay already solid and we hope it is even more solid than it seems when we have the pad in hand. The technical sector also seems decidedly improved, both in terms of textures and lighting and for the animations themselves, now more fluid and responsive.
