Hollow Knight - Guide to the five endings

Hollow Knight: Silksong was announced just a couple of months ago, although there is still no release date on the currently announced platforms (PC, Mac, Linux and Nintendo Switch). We still don't know if it will be a prequel or a sequel, but we do know that the protagonist will be Hornet, one of the most important characters of the first chapter, especially in consideration of the endings.

In this sense, with this quick guide we will explain how to get all five endings included in the final version of the game, as well as an optional extra scene. We will try to avoid spoilers as much as possible, but we recommend reading to those who have already obtained at least one ending.

The 5 endings of Hollow Knight

Here are the five endings of Hollow Knight, which you may encounter in your game.

1) The Hollow Knight

The first ending is also the easiest to obtain, as it requires nothing more than killing the final boss. The only requirement is negative: the player must go to the boss without having acquired the Void Heart amulet.

2) sealed brothers

Mirroring the first ending, this requires you to defeat the boss after having acquired the Void Heart amulet, which is found in the depths of The Abyss, one of the locations that make up the Ancient Basin. It requires the Royal Soul amulet (consisting of two fragments: one obtained from the White Lady, the other from King Pale) and the Awakened Dream Nail (upgrade obtainable after collecting 1800 essences).

3) Dream no more

The requirements are the same as the second ending, but instead of killing the boss when he holds back (we won't tell you by whom, but you'll have a half idea, Ed), you have to hit him with the Awakened Dream Nail. Watch out, because you'll have to face a second boss, infinitely more powerful than the previous one.

4) Embrace the void

This is the first ending added by the Godmaster expansion. To get it you will have to complete all five pantheons. Remember that the Heart of the Void is required to enter this last one.

5) Delicate Flower

The last ending has the same requirements as the previous one, but adds a non indifferent one: having delivered the delicate flower (intact!) to the god seeker. This implies the completion of the quest related to this flower: it is entrusted to us by the Mournful Grey (who is in the Lands of Rest) and must be taken to the tomb located in the Queen's Gardens. After completing the quest, you can collect more flowers in the tomb to take them to other characters.

Bonus Scene: Passing the Age

This post-credits scene is unlocked after completing the Mister Mushroom mission, which will be available after killing the three Dreamers. You will find it in seven different locations, in order:

Mushroom Caves: a couple of screens east of Queen's Station.
Borders of the Realm: on the screen before the streetcar stop.
Nidoscuro: in the first room south of the Broken Line.
Urlanti Crags: very close to the bank.
Antico Bacino: just before the westernmost room of the site.
Misty Canyon: in the room south of the Poggio Rigoglioso.
Passo del Re: at the foot of the cliff.

How to get Hornet to help you?

If you're looking for Hornet to give you a hand, here's a trick. If you hit the boss hard enough while he's trapped or if he goes too long without using the oneiric stinger, the boss will break free and leave Hornet helpless. Despite that, the fight will continue, and after defeating the boss, the Knight will absorb the infection and be sealed in the temple.

What is necessary for 112%?

To reach 112% in Hollow Knight, you must complete a number of objectives that go beyond the base game. Here is a list of what you need to do to get 112% completion in Hollow Knight:

Defeat Hidden Boss: You must defeat a hidden boss called "The Pantheon of Knights".
Additional achievements: Reach all the achievements available in the game.
Collect all the mask and heart fragments: Find all the mask and heart fragments to increase your health and available masks.
Collect all full masks and hearts: Find and complete all fragments to obtain full masks and hearts.
Acquire all skills and spells: Make sure you have obtained all the skills and spells available in the game.
Collect all map tools: Get all available map tools to gain access to complete information about the game world.
Defeat the additional boss: There is an additional boss called "The Pale Knight" that you must defeat.
Complete the Hallownest Pantheon: This is an additional challenge that you must overcome to reach 112%.
Collect all the soul fragments: Find and collect all the soul fragments available in the game.
Complete the Colosseum Masters Quest: Defeat all the bosses in the Colosseum of the Fools.

Which insect is the main character in Hollow Knight?

In this game, the main insect is known as the Knight. The Wyrm, giant insects of great power, could be considered the titans of Hollow Knight and could have posed a significant threat to Radiance, or at least caused it complications.

Is there a true ending to Hollow Knight?

What is the Heart of the Void in Hollow Knight?

This item houses a liberated void that binds to the will of the wearer. It remains an integral part of the wearer and cannot be removed from the equipment.

To obtain this amulet, you must go to the Place of Birth, whose entrance is located deep in the abyss. It will only open if the player has the Soul of the Monarch equipped. When you reach the end of the area, an egg will reveal a scene from the past, showing the Pale King.

The Heart of the Void unlocks the second and third endings of the game, where Hornet assists the Knight in the battle against the Hollow Knight. Once acquired, the first ending cannot be achieved without starting a new game.

In addition to its function in the endings, this amulet prevents the player's Shadow and Brothers from being hostile. They are destroyed with a single hit and the Void Tentacles no longer appear. Although it replaces the Monarch's Soul, it does not take up notches and does not have its effects.

It also unlocks new dialogues with characters such as Confessor Jiji, Steel Soul Jinn, White Lady, Hornet and Bardoon.

A curiosity: hitting the egg reveals a scene in which the Pale King removes the young Hollow Knight from the abyss, putting an end to his experiments to contain the infection and closing the entrance with the Mark of the King, writing that "The pure receptacle has ascended".
