Interland is part of the “Live the Internet, at its best” program, created by Google to help children, families and teachers to experience the online world in a more informed way.
The Web is an extraordinary place that allows us to access information, develop knowledge and stay in touch with people around the world. But being good digital citizens requires awareness, responsibility and commitment, all of which are not always immediate for a child. Parents and teachers know this well, and every day they help the little ones make decisions, be responsible and kind in the online world.
With families having to face the new reality by jumping between online classes and entertainment and the summer vacation just around the corner, children are also spending more time on the Internet. What better time to teach them the fundamentals of how to live the Net more safely? To help you on this path today we present Interland, the interactive online game designed by Google to teach children aged 6 to 13 the basics of online safety in a fun and engaging way. It's free and online, easily accessible to everyone at g.co/interland, but most importantly, it's in a format kids already love. We created it with the help of digital security development experts and it is suitable for all ages, with a special focus on children aged 6 to 13.
Interland is a fictional world made up of 4 territories where children must face hackers, phishers, talkers and bullies, exercising the skills necessary to be good digital citizens. Crossing the River of reality, which crosses the Interland flowing between reality and fictions, children learn not to fall into the traps of the web; the courteous Kingdom teaches them how the atmosphere of every place is always contagious, for better or for worse, and that spreading kindness in the interaction with other Internet users can block negative attitudes on the web and restore peace. In the Treasure Tower you learn to keep your most precious treasures - your personal information - safe. While on the Responsible Mountain, the mountainous city of Interland in which to meet and chat with the other inhabitants, you must be very careful about what to share and with whom, because information travels fast and among those you know there is a chatterbox who shares it. without control.
On the occasion of the launch of Interland, together with Fondazione Mondo Digitale, the new partner of "Vivi Internet, al Meglio", we will dedicate a whole weekend - Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 June - to discovering the Interland Labs, free online workshops of 40 minutes each, in which children between the ages of 6 and 13 can explore the world of the Internet by putting themselves to the test with Interland. Interland is part of the “Live Internet, at its best” program, launched by Google in 2018 to help children and families to experience the online world more consciously. The project, promoted by the Safer Internet Center - Generazioni Connesse in the context of awareness raising and education activities in the conscious use of the Internet and new technologies, also sees the collaboration of Altroconsumo with regard to activities dedicated to parents.
In addition to integrating the program with a space specifically designed for children, we have expanded the Vivi Internet site, al Meglio with a section entirely dedicated to teachers, at g.co/peridocenti, developed in collaboration with the Fondazione Mondo Digitale. This content provides teachers with the tools and methods needed to teach the basic concepts of security and digital citizenship in the classroom.
